I was cleared for walking immediately. I walked until I was tired, quickly moving up to 2-3 miles. I was cleared for cardio gym equipment at week 6 (elliptical and treadmill) and no restrictions at 12 weeks.

I started walking two days post op, albeit short distances. After about 2 weeks, I was walking and/or biking for 30-40 minutes a day. Added swimming as soon as the wounds were completely healed (think it was at 6 weeks or so, can't remember).

Wasn't cleared for weights until about 16 weeks, however it was moderate...nothing too strenuous. At 20 weeks, I started hitting the weights aggressively and haven't looked back!

Good luck on a speedy recovery and get ready, you're in for one heck of an awesome journey! :D

My exercise started post op day one.

Was told to walk a lap of the hospital (220yds) at least 5 times a day.

Walk at a pace that makes you slightly breathless for as long as you can do it.

I am now nearly 4 weeks out and walking everyday for about 30 mins

I wondered the same thing ! I am 4 week out today and struggle with the energy needed to to any exercise more than a 20 to 30 min walk or easy swim for 15 min.

I have enjoyed resistance training , arobics , eliptical in the past. Just cant seem to find the gumtion for any of those at this point.

Was feeling like a failure in the exercise ...
