How much time off work, desk job

Recommended Posts

My surgeon recommends four weeks off work but financially that isn't possible. With my band, I was banded Thursday and returned to work Monday. How long do I need to plan to stay home?

I telecommute full time - I had surgery on Thursday and worked 1/2 days starting the following Monday (that Tuesday I put in a full day). If I had to go back to an office and work, I would have taken 7-10 days off. I got tired easily those first 10 days and it was nice to be able to rest when I needed to and I could walk when I was ready. I flew home 10 days after surgery with no issues.

Best of luck to you!

I thought I could go back at two weeks. Then I couldn't get myself out of bed at two weeks long enough to even get ready. So I waited another week and was determined to go back at three weeks. Actually made it in the door this time. Worked for two hours and couldn't do anymore. So I tried again at the four week mark and have been great ever since :) every person gets their energy back at different times and your surgeons office should work with you along with your employer. What good are you to them if your passing out or falling asleep or just not able to do your job duties efficiently.

Good luck!!

I took a week off. The first few days back, I was really tired and wishing I had more time off, but still did OK. I was pretty much back in full swing by the following week.

Give yourself two weeks. While you might feel up to returning earlier, your body will be weak following your pre-op and post-op liquid diet and the stress of the surgery itself. It is a good idea to wait until after your post-op follow up with your surgeon before returning to work.

I've read posts saying they were back at work at 3 days post-op. I was off for 8 days including the weekends before returning to work. I was feeling kinda weak, but not in any pain. I have a desk job and don't really have to move around except to take bathroom breaks.

I also have a sit down desk job, the sitting all day made me sore, so I took my 2 15 min breaks, 30 min lunch and several bathroom breaks and walked around to keep from bein sore and help with blood circulation

It can be done. Had surgery on a wed. Went back to work on Monday. I have a desk job and am the boss so I took it easy no lifting and worked 1/2 day for a coulle of days As long as you have a place to rest if you need to. You won't know if you can till after surgery everyone recovers differently. Good luck.

I do nails, so a desk job but not totally un-physical. I had to go back at 6 days (would have LOVED more but not possible). I took it easy, with just 3 clients, the next day 5 and 7 clients yesterday. I made it through but it wasn't until yesterday that I even considered not taking a pain pill to get through it. So as long as you have a pain pill to help with the discomfort, I think you are fine at a week or so.

I'm wondering the same thing except I'm a college student. I'm taking only one class this summer from 1-5pm, three times a week. Will one week off be enough for me to return back to school. I'm more worried about the pain than anything else.

I was sleeved on 5/28. My Dr said up to 4 weeks, but we will see how I feel after 2 which is my follow up. I wanted to get back to work asap, but then I was told I should take a few more days to really concentrate on the diet.

Plus now that I have been home for a while plus the nice weather finally, I will admit, im enjoying it :o)

I have been told by my doctor 4 wk. I also work a desk job, but a stressful one, so I plan to take all of the 4. I had my surgery on June 2 and I have had bouts of pain and tiredness. I also have pain to sitting at a desk for hours typing. So take at lease 2 weeks off, you need time for your body to heal and get use to new diet.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
