Weight Fluctuations Pre Op?

Hi, Im new here and Im just beginning this process. I have my Orientation Class at Kaiser on Monday. I have a question... I know that many insurances require that your weight be at a BMI of 35+ for 3 years before surgery.. my question is, what if you at one time had lost weight and went below that BMI for like, a half a second and then shot back up above 35 BMI? Will I be disqualified? Right now I have a BMI of 42 and have for about a year. I was looking back over my weigh ins at Kaiser over the past 3 years and noticed that my weight fluctuated so much! :(

Can't really respond for your Insurance company...but I would think a "consistant" bmi would be what's important... you can call them and ask (or dr)

good luck to you!

Which Kaiser are you at? Kaiser requires you to have the BMI of 40 documented in your chart within one year. So if you've lost weight but six months ago you qualified and now you weight less, Kaiser looks at your highest weight in the year.
