Heart burn

Was sleeved on 3/11 so 7 days post op. Today I've had heart burn all day! Is this something forever now, or just something common post op. It hurts so much. I felt great yesterday. Today not so much!

#1- Are you on Prilosec or another similar med?

#2-is it possible that you are taking in too much and/or too quickly?

#3-are you using a straw? that can cause gas.

Thanks for replying! I am taking Pepcid 2x's a day. My doc's office today told me to try that for a few days and if it doesn't help they will give me something else. I am not drinking from a straw, and I'm drinking slowly. I hope this doesn't last.

This is pretty common.... It has been about 1 yr for me.... No lasting issues. I do take stomach meds every day, but did that prior to the surgery. Hang in there

Glad you are keeping your Dr. informed. Sounds like you are doing the right things. I'm sure it won't last, maybe just part of healing? Feel better

very common to deal with acid after surgery...I was on prilosec for 6 weeks, tried weaning off onto pepecid. ...no go, just got back on the prilosec.

Some people have a problem with acid long after surgery, some just for a few months...just depends.

I was banded on 3/6/14 and experienced severe heartburn type chest pain during 3rd -7th day post op. I thought I was going to die and that this might be a forever feeling-it did go begin subsiding around the 8th day, still getting a feeling if I eat too fast or if my drinks are too cold. But not like it was last week. I was worried too and called the Drs. office. Took GasEx every 4 hours.

It is nice to know that it is a normal part of this and that others experience the same.

Peace of mind means everything during recovery. :)

Thanks everyone! My healing has been great except for this. I was wondering if this would become the "norm". Glad to know it might go away. All of these new sensations are hard to read.

I'm 6 months out and still have to take a heart burn pill every morning or I'm in pain by the afternoon.
