Feeling Hungry? Is this it?

Recommended Posts

I'm three weeks post op and I think tonight is the first time I feel hungry. Does this happen about now? Does the swelling go down in your tummy and start actually getting some hunger and craving a little food? I virtually have not had hunger pains or really wanted much food till now.

Real hunger pangs tend to be like...... if you don't get some food, you're going to pass out. My guess is you're experiencing the dreaded "head hunger". It can attack in many forms. I can still see a package of some delectable food and instantly recall and miss the taste. When the aroma of some cooking reaches my nostrils, I can identify the food and imagine enjoying it as well. But do I want or need to put some food in my belly right that minute cause I am so hungry...?? Typically no. I try to quickly get my mind off of it and do something else until I realize I wasn't actually hungry. I was just missing those familiar desires.

Usually boredom will trigger those run-a-way thoughts and feelings. So get busy or drink some Water or get out and exercise to help train your mind away from the head hunger triggers.

For me, I don't really feel hungry (not like before). I can feel that my stomach is empty and needs some food. It's not a feeling that I need to shovel everything in sight into my mouth. Usually a piece of cheese (if it's between meals) does the trick.

Same here, I feel hungry, but only when it's been a long time since I ate. My surgeon said I would likely not feel hunger anymore, but I do. It's easily satisfied, so that's good- keeps me from eating what I shouldn't.

I am 3 weeks out as well, and have had a handful of "hunger" pains. Maybe pain is not the word, more like a "hey, stomach here....fuel needed!" I obviously remember those long ago feelings of starving. So when I felt the pangs, I ate. But I ate what I was supposed to. And the funny part was, I really thought I was soooooo hungry, that I'd be able to eat my whole yogurt or egg or cottage cheese. Yup, not the case. But I am at a point where I am still not eating much because I am not so hungry. I have 2 Protein shakes a day to make sure i get my Protein in, but then I am not really hungry for more then one other thing. So listen to your body and follow what your surgeon and NUT recommend.

usually for me its more of "hey your bored or stressed, go get something to eat", not nomore, I only eat when I am truly hungry, when I can feel the pit of my stomach empty and it growls at me, I sometimes also get hunger headaches. I am 3 weeks out and can only eat half of a greek yogurt or half a bowl of cream of wheat then I get this full feeling in my stomach. I swear my house has never been cleaner with all this boredom, I can not wait until the nicer weather. I need to find a hobby

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
