Carbonated beverages

Recommended Posts

Well some people drink it anyway..But this is how it was explained to me by my nut on Monday....No matter how flat you make soda it still contains bubbles...If you make it a habit drinking it then the bubbles expand in your pouch..Eventually, actually in a very short time you can stretch your pouch out and eat more which is the exact opposite of why we had these WLS done.

She told me that the first red flag that goes up for failure is someone drinking pop of any kind!!!!

If you do it once then and it does not effect you you may do it again and so on and so on and so on....Until you stretch your pouch!

My dietitian said pretty much the same thing. That it's because it takes up too much room in your stomach and causes too much gas and pressure. Plus, it messes with your eating habits! It's no good if you're filling up on soda and have no room for Water, Protein, and other things your body actually needs!

I gave up Diet Coke a couple of years ago. Very thankful for getting over that addiction. Anything that can be used to tenderize meat or get rid of erosion on a car battery cannot possibly be healthy for my body !!!! It was a hard thing to give up, but I'm so glad that I did!

I have been addicted to diet soda for as long as I can remember. The only time I gave it up was the 9 months that I was pregnant. Since I've been on this pre-op diet, I've had none. I have had a few cravings for it, but I honestly feel so much better since giving it up. Now, I wonder if some of my always feeling tired and achy all the time was partially from drinking it so much. I think it's ironic that drinking "diet" soda only made me get fatter and fatter!

not only does it stretch your pouch but our pouch is so little to begin with and our job is to put in healthy high Protein food not empty calorie stuff. i can see where once in awhile a person might want to do it but there are so many other things to drink. find something you like and drink it instead.

I drink carbonated beverages all the time...not coke, but beer, sparkling Water, etc....

Like the majority of your Dr.'s, I do not recommended people just starting out to do it...not until you get to know your band very well....and that may take some time...and the majority of people on this forum are newly banded.....

There is more important things one must learn, before they understand what the dangers and warning signs of carbonation are...along with other things...so the easiest thing to do is just say NO...

Some people say it will stretch your pouch....HOW? If liquids run right through the band, not sitting in the pouch...as many believe (I Don't)....but still, there are many other things one can do, without realizing it, that can do a lot of damage....

It CAN stretch your pouch, but not the way many people thing it can...other things come into play at the same time.

Again, I would say people just starting out have more important things to learn before worrying about this...

.and once you know your band inside and out, THEN you will understand some other things, and then you can talk to your Dr. about it and get his permission, or not......there is a life waiting after you complete this Weight Loss Journey, and head into a normal day to day life....but that can be way in the future for some and should be more concerned about the now and present...and adapting that new lifestyle...

My Dr. has a strict rule about NO CARBONATED drinks to ALL his patients.......however, he knows his "Veteran" patients do it, along with other things... and he does not mind, as long as he knows that we know what we're doing....

I have a hard time when speaking at support groups, etc...I have to be very careful what I say, and usually keep everything within my first year of experience.....

I have learned to never drink while eating...as a matter of fact I can't....and if I should accidentally drink something carbonated while eating, it would be 10 times worse and probably mean a trip to the ER....

My surgeon said that the problem with carbonation is really that you can't burp the same after surgery so it gives you gas and sometimes gas pain.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
