happy new year!

so I finally have a date for my sleeve 1/27/14 and I'm getting nervous. My surgeon isn't having me do any pre op dieting, has anyone heard of this?

Stephg,

First, welcome to BariaticPal and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.

Yes, i have heard of no pre-op diet. If you search pre-op diets you will see a lot. Here is a link. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/389-pre-op-post-op-diets/

You will find on this site, that there is such a variety of pre-op and ost-op diets from doctors. The only consistency is that everyone had weight loss surgery. The most important thing you can do is to follow the instructions provided to you by your doctor and nutritionist as far as when you can eat different foods and begin exercising.

Good luck to you and welcome.

My doctor didn't give me any pre op diet either. Just asked me not to eat sweets and foods with a lot of fat the week before the surgery. I guess it depends on the doctor. I did fine anyway so I'm sure you will too. Even though if you do want to follow a pre op diet you could always just ask your doctor and nutritionist or I guess you can also look for one over the internet. I just think it's best that you get advice from your doctor and nutritionist first.

Thank you for your reply. I did ask my surgeon and nutritionalist and they both say a pre op diet is not necessary. My surgeon has never required anyone to do it and has very good results. I'm just getting very nervous, I've gone back and forth on whether or not to even go through with the surgery, but I have finally made up my mind that this is something I'm ready to do!!

My pre op diet was basic, 24 hour liquid diet. Surgeons do it differently, so if your told not to worry and no pre op diet, ENJOY! Wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated! :-)

Sleeved: October 7th 2013

Current Weight: 170

Below doctors goal weight, 10 pounds till I reach personal goal weight.

Stephg,

Perfectly normal to be worried and scared. It is a big step. You can read about it and talk to people but it still isn't real until it's happening to you. I know I thought at times why am I removing 85% of my stomach, will this work for me, etc.

If someone wasn't a little nervous before this surgery, I would be a little worried about them. I remember when I got the call to set the date, it became very real and was a combination of excitement and nervousness at the same time.

Search the forums for nervous before surgery and you will see you have a lot of company.

You wouldn't be a human if you weren't nervous! You should have seen my the week before surgery, boy was I a mess lol. I look back to when I had my surgery three months ago and I laugh at myself for the anxiousness and nervousness I had. I expected the worse which is FAR from what happened. Think positive! Think about the outcome! The amazing results! The sexiness you will feel! All of it! I have never felt sexy in my 28 years until now. I went from having high blood pressure and being on three meds for it to three days after surgery not! Off two cholesterol medications. Off a seizure med! No longer pre diabetic numbers! And so much more! You got this girl , you got it!!!!! :-)

I only had a day of liquid diet to clean my intestines out. That was it. The surgery had no complications either. :)
