drinking while you eat

I am newly banded and just wanted some advice on drinking when you eat, i know you cant drink until 30 min after you eat - but what about before while you are waiting on your meal

    Your not supose to drink 30 min before and an hour after you eat.

    My Dr. said no drinking 15min before and 30-45min after.

    I've done well following the rules, but find it hard to get enough to drink all day.
