Y friend got the gastric bipass surgery and she just told me that the drs tried to steer her away from the sleeve. She also said you don't lose as much weight with the sleeve, and you don't lose it as fast. Is this true? Thanks in advance! :)

I think that doctors have different opinions. My doctors office has stated that they feel that the sleeve is ideal for people with 100-150 lbs to lose and the bypass if for those looking to lose more. They both have their positives and negatives but I think on either you have the potential to lose lots of weight. I'm choosing to go with the sleeve because those who go with bypass with have a problem with absorption and therefore have to take Vitamins for the rest of their lives...plus I just don't like the idea of rerouting my insides.

Bottom line is you should do your own research and decide what is best for your body...with either surgery you are going to lose tremendous weight

Good Luck to You!!

There are major differences between both surgeries..I was going to have the by pass done when I started to research the sleeve..Yes you do drop weight quicker with the bypass but you get less nutrients out of what you put in your body...the sleeve allows you to break down food some before it leaves the sleeve, so you get more out of it...bypass..the food goes directly to the intestines..

The intestines help break down the remaining good out of the food we eat..But most of the breaking down is done in the stomach... But not with bypass..

So you are limited in what you get out of the food you put in...

I would rather lose the weight slower then lose nutrients in the food I eat..I know what it is like to have all the side effects of not getting enough Protein and minerals and Vitamins out of what I eat...i would never swap for the bypass..

Now that being said I am one in thousand s who have both technically because of issues I had with the sleeve. But I look at it as if I have the sleeve alone......

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
