Hello everyone! My name is Diane and I just got thru w/my pre-op appt, Im scheduled for surgery on 3/28/07. Just wondering if anyone has some words of encouragement!! Im so ready to do this! Its been a battle for the last year & 1/2 w/the insurance company. My advise on that is, dont give up!! You can win w/the ins co. It just takes time. My sister-in-law had the surgery 12/27/06 and has lost 38 lbs..I've heard alot about the post pain from gases used to inflate your stomach area stuck in your body. Does anyone know of some moves to get that out in case that happens to me?? Im just looking for some do's and dont's..Thanks everyone!

Hi Dina...I'm outside of Dallas :)

If you get gas...walk walk walk! In fact, if you don't get gas, walk walk walk! :) Seriously, the walking is good for you and helps move that gas along. I was fortunate, and didn't get any at all.

There's a ton of information on the site to help you along. Welcome!

Welcome, Dina....

I was banded 11/29/04 in Ft Worth by Dr. Adam Smith. I live in North Richland Hills and every third Thursday, a bunch of us Bandsters get together for dinner in Arlington. You are welcome to join us - even pre-band. Bring your hubby, mom, kids....whomever.

Mercado Juarez restaurant. Let me know if you'd like details.

Is that the Mercado on 20 near Matlock, Carlene?

No, this one...

Arlington (Near the Ballpark)

2222 Miller Road

Arlington, TX 76006

(817) 649-3324

Sorry I wasn't more specific. And they give us a private room, by the way.

Edited to add...DH and I hope to be there Thursday, but we are planning a little overnight getaway to Shreveport - leaving Wed and coming back Thursday, so depends on how that goes. The meet-and-eat is 6:30.

Hi Diane!

Gas is a booger... I have some gas-ex chewables that I use when I need to... and I have HEARD that if you kneel on the bed with your butt in the air and your head and shoulders down on the bed, that the gas rises to the highest point - and starts working it's way through.

Truly, I don't know how much it helps - but it's worth a try.

Welcome and good luck!!

Oh - and I know there is a group meeting in Denton, now, too.

:]

Wonderful! We usually have all stages represented - vets, beginners, and newbies, as well as pre-Bandsters. We have people banded by all the area doctors, as well as in several foreign countries. So no matter what your story is, you should have no trouble finding someone in similar straits.

We have one woman who has lost over 200 pounds. She had LB surgery while it was still in the FDA trial phase.

We have people who have slipped and been repaired, people who've had plastics, etc. We have young, old and in between.

As for the menu, they will bring you just broth (from the chicken tortilla soup) if you are on liquids. The "complete" Soup is great, by the way. I can eat the nachos (about half an order) and a little bit of queso. They also make terrific Margaritas....and remember, liquor is a liquid...LOL.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
