Does anybody consume any alcohol post op?

Im writing on behalf of my husband as we were both recently sleeved..... He knows beer could be a bad idea bc of carbination, but wonders about alcohol. he understands that alcohol could slow weight loss, but is only concerned with it being detrimental to his healing. He does not drink daily but likes to drink to excess at special events ie. weddings, BIG sporting events... and if you do/ did drink- how soon after surgery?

Hell ya you can drink how else can we stay married.

  • Decide if drinking is really something you want to do. As a post op, I went through a short lived phase between month 4-6, having a drink a couple times a month. Yes, it was a little nice to relax wit

  • And for the carbonation...I never drink anything carbonated. It has been over 3 years since I had anything with carbonation. Husband will occasionally have a beer but he is 2.5 years post-op as well

My doc said wait 6 mos because of the empty calories.

^^^^^ good advice!! Do what you can to work that sleeve in the first six months because losing gets exponentially harder the more time that goes by after that.

I tried alcohol this weekend. (Im about 6 weeks out, and approved by nurse.) I wouldn't recommend it. It went down ok, but making bad eating decisions is way too easy to do while drinking. I had 3/4 shot of Jack Daniels mixed in with an ounce of water. It hit fast and hard. I think if I had had another shot I would have been completely trashed. I think Im going to do my best to stay away as much as possible :/ Hard to do when your skinny husband tries to get you to drink :/
