How much Calories are enough?

I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm consuming on average about 300-400calories. Should I be consuming more?

I would check with your doctor, my doctor gave me a detailed eating plan for every stage of the process. I followed it exactly.

wow, your lucky I got a piece of paper with maybe 5 items listed, it was rediculous

Yes, I remember, i could drink more and eat more and when i looked at the calendar it was two weeks, and it has gotten easier everyday...I can drink normally now and no problems eating so far! :)

Me too Vicki but I'm still so tired and that is frustrating me. I am glad to hear you can eat everything ok so far because so can I. I'm afraid of fruit though.

yes lisa, me too, I havent tried fruit yet....Im glad to hear your eating and drinking normal too..lol...I was starting to wonder if I was normal..I am tired to, my mind tells me to go, and then my body says no, no no....i go to the grocery store and once thru and I need to go home and rest...I dont know how long it takes for this to go away?

I haven't tried fruit yet either, and I too get tired very easy, once around the grocery store and I am half laying in the cart...LOL...then I have to come home and rest...my mind tells me to go go go but my body says no no no!...I'm glad to hear your eating and drinking normally, because I thought I wasn't normal.....hope the energy returns soon....SORRY ABOUT THE DOUBLE POST...

Great to hear your stories ladies BUT....this really has nothing to do with the question I've posed. Can anyone answer my question? What amount of calories are you or were you consuming @ 2 weeks?

It varies per surgeon, I was supposed to be 600 calories but often was 400-500.

I've been eating fruit for about a week now and I'm 3 weeks post op. I mix berries with ricotta cheese for the Protein.

The difficulty in answering your question is that doctors are all over the place when it comes to post-op care and in many cases, pre-op care and diets.

If it helps, my surgeon did not give me a calorie goal at two weeks out. It was all about drinking as much Water as possible and getting as much Protein as possible with the goal of 100g a day. It is not uncommon for doctors to put much more emphasis on volume as opposed to calories this soon after surgery. Your pouch is doing some serious healing and it's ability to signal the brain that it's full is likely still ineffective. That makes it easier to stretch the pouch without realizing it. So volume is a more important consideration than calories.

That said, I would agree with the suggestion noted above, call your doctor. He/she knows your medical history, the details of your surgery and his/her preferences for post-op diet and how quickly he/she wants patients to progress through the process of introducing your pouch to food. You're gonna love the new you!

I did answer you...700-800 per day, but not per my doctor, he did not give me a calorie count...its just what i know from logging on MFP...:)

They told me to do the best I could for the first few weeks but the first 2 I doubt I had over 400 or 500 calories in a day.

Thanks for the feedback! My doctor didn't specify on calories but I guess I've been eating few because I'm not hungry and I don't crave anything. I just increased my protein intake because it was pretty low. I'm aiming for 60g of protein and I have just started to use MFP. I'm going to aim for anything between 500-700 calories. I don't think I can take more in. After I had dinner today ( Lima beans and 2 turkey bacon strips) I was done! I tried to get a protein shake in @ 8:30 but it was just too much! I felt like I was stuffing my face so I stopped- I had to.
