From what I have seen it differs from Dr to Dr. Some have 2 weeks of all liquid, some can have a meal for dinner, I only have to do a week with dinners so I think you should call your Dr. To find out what he/she wants you to do

Mine will be 6 weeks but my mom's was only a week. I think it all depends on the doctors but it's shouldn't be that long. Mine will consist of:

Wk1&2 - 2 meals & 1 Protein drink

Wk3&4 - 1 meal & 2 Protein drinks

Wk5&6 - 3 protein drinks

That seems like a lot but my doc told me that I will lose a bunch before the surgery (BMI will still be in the 60's) that it will help. Each program is different but give your docs office a call and see what it will consist of. It might help to know before so you can get ready for it like I have. My 6 weeks starts in a few weeks and so far I have start cutting back my food.

Good luck :)

Thanks ladies for the info..I am just sceared i will not b able to do it..i have no self control over food! If i did i probably wouldnt b in the shape i am in now..i hav done my seminar and got the book but it says nothing in there about the pre op diet.. I hav all my paper work in and i was approved yepieee :) all i hav to do now is my psyc evaluation in one week and go to my pcp for him to fill out some paper work and one support group meet, then they will giv me my date for surgery :)

My doctor just told me Friday that I don't have to do any pre-op diet !!! I am thanking The Lord above for that!! Also, I don't have to do any type of cleanse I keep hearing about either.

I'm a couple months pre op but my doc had me cut out carbs. I'm allowed to have 20-40 grams a day that includes what's in veggies, etc. No soadas. Lots of water and 2 or 2 shakes a day. The a week before surgery only liquids.

I want your doctor, so far I can't keep to just the shakes a day.

I must be the odd man out because I am looking forward to my 6 week pre-op diet. I plan to get rid of everything in the house except for what I can eat and all the ingredients for my shakes. I guess I'm just wanting to get to the surgery that doing the 6 week diet will help me get there. Of course you'll have to check back with me half way in and see if I still feel the same way :P

Wanted to say best of wishes only 2 more days. Mine is set for March 26 so pumped!!!

Thank you. I am so excited...this morning I am headed to hospital for pre op appt. Everything just got real...
