March Surgery Dates

I've seen topics where members having surgery in the same month have kinda banded together to offer support and encouragement to one another. I think this is a wonderful idea, and I'd like to see if there's anyone having surgery in March that would like to support one another.

I have a tentative date for the second or third week in March. I have UHC through Georgia Pacific and they use BRS for approvals. I don't expect any delays, nor does my surgeon's office, so she saved me a spot, so to speak, lol.

Tonight I have my psyc eval, and Monday is my information class, I have two more visits, 2/5 and 3/5 of my six month supervised diet, and on March 5th when I leave my PCP's office, I'll take my worksheet to the surgeon and we'll submit to insurance. That's where I'm at!

I'd love to talk with others that are looking at the same time frame as me!! :D

Honestly, I was thinking that six months of eating as if you have already had the surgery would be difficult for everyone. The surgery makes it harder to make the mistakes that most of us are naturally inclined to make and provides painful reminders is when we slip up. If everyone was capable of just completely changing or way of eating over the long term

I'm so glad you posted this. Made the mistake of telling someone today and she told me about a horror story. Reading this made me feel so much better.

I'm happy my family's story helps you- I know it brings me comfort when listening to the negative reactions of some. I never understood why some feel its necessary to share third party horror stories!

Okay' date=' couldn't really tell by some of the names but from looking through the posts, I didn't see any guys on your list.

Surgery date is 11 March. Start my liquid diet tomorrow. I've read a lot about the nervousness and anxieties about getting closer to the actual date. Gotta tell y'all from a guys perspective it's no different. The scary part for me is about the liquid diet preop. After years of being on the "diabetic roller coaster" ( as one of you ladies put it), I'm really not looking forward to having to check my blood sugars that many more times in a day. Especially in the business setting I work in. Maybe it's a guy thing about showing one of my weaknesses...don't know.

Anyway, aside from all the anxieties I really am looking forward to having a new life. I'd be honored if you'd add me to the list for support and in return I'll offer all the prayers, support and well wishes that I can.

Welcome Steevo! I had the same fears you do about the pre op diet. My surgeon has us use Optifast products and we are allowed 3 shakes, a (powdered) soup and a protein bar a day. I'm not going to lie, it's tough! I'm on day 5 and I am trying so hard to not cheat...some days successfully and some days not...I have not done anything horrible but grab a handful of chips on day 2 and 3. At least it was one handful and not half the bag!!

Best of luck to you on your pre op diet and with your diabetes. My daughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was 6 so I understand your concerns.

My 6 months was just on a dr supervised lower fat/carb diet..... I had already been on weight watchers, medifast, sensa, clean eating, nutrisystem, working out with a trainer until my body couldn't deal anymore, working out at a gym regularly until the same, etc. I had b12 shots every month, and weigh-ins.

I feel I have to clear something up. I say I fibbed my way through nutritional classes but I did not. I was told to maintain and not to loose any weight and not to switch over my diet. Mayo is very strict and would not allow me to have surgery if I was not ready. I have not had to chew food to be like applesauce. I've only been told to make peices smaller then the nail on my pinky finger. I feel as thought I've cheated somehow but I have followed every doctor's order to the letter and beyond.

I had a somewhat similar situation. I was so frustrated by having to do the six month diet before my band because I knew that I would lose weight and the loss of even a couple of pounds would have dropped my bmi too low for surgery approval. My family doctor helped me develop a healthy eating plan but we worked together to avoid my losing weight. I had been yo-yoing for years and we both knew that was bad for me and that surgery was needed to maintain weight loss.

Thanks, Janel

I hope everyone agrees with me when I say the last thing we need in our group is a judgmental attitude, encouragement and positive reinforcement are welcome. That being said, I thought you may have been referring to the actual doctors' visits. I had a sheet I had to take every month to get signed and it was soooooo tempting to forge a few, but I resisted, that wasn't very positive thinking, and I needed the time to prepare anyway. Your posts are so encouraging! Please accept my apology if I offended! Best of luck!

I started on page one of this thread, and I was surprised how many people had fallen off this list here and there. I'm so sorry. I don't know how that's happened, but I've tried my best to include EVERYONE, even those who don't have a date yet. So if you don't see your name let me know, if you have a date change, I'll change it on the list. No problem!

I had to do this six months thing... but how did you "fib" if you don't mind my asking. Lol... I have one more visit on the 28th, and I'm done!!

I cannot stress this enough, I cheated myself to be clear. The program is the way it is for a reason. I just do not think most people are able to follow the nut guidelines or they would not be having surgery. The 6 month for me was called a "Dr. supervised weight loss attempt" if this was successful for people they would not need surgery. But trying to change habits as soon as you can is always a good idea.
