Today is day one of the pre op total liquid diet. Surgery is jan 22 and doctor wants me to lose 5-6 more pounds

Hi there, I'm just starting the process. It seems the liquid diet is the nornal thing now. Why do they want us to do this? My appt is on the 23rd, but I have lots of questions now. 

If you do the liquid diet you will lose 5-6 pounds easy. And most docs want the liquid diet pre op because it shrinks your liver and moves it out of his way a bit while operating, If your liver is enlarged it can get knicked easier during surgery. And in general it is just better to go into surgery with a few pounds down, Also good practice for how you will be eating post op first couple of weeks. Some people have a rough time some don't. But it is important and you will be very glad you did it.

That makes sense. I can't wait to get to that liq part, because it'll mean I'm getting close to getting my health back. I am going thru the 6 month weight loss stuff ugh! I just want this is be over. Did u have to do the 6 month weight documentation also? It's a waste for me. I've been chubby all my life
