Did anyone wait two whole weeks before driving after surgery?

Nope. Surgery on Monday. Released from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Drove to the office on Thursday morning...

I drove the next day also. Someone had to take the kids to school...speed bumps were a little uncompfortable but other than that things were fine. I think they say no driving because of the pain meds...

I had surgery last Monday 04/02/2012 and drove today my dghtr to school. I feel great!!!! (knock on wood) I been very skeptical about pain meds, I think is more b/c my pain level is great! The first 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th day were pretty bad as far as pain but afterward Gosh no pain at all, just a bit discomfort but nothing bad at all. Also I guess I been lucky, b/c everyone I know that had done this surgery always tell me that they had nauseas and vomit episodes and so far (again knock on wood) nothing at all!

I'm so happy w/this surgery decision and I don't think that I will regret it at all!

Panda ~~> I hear you about the depression situation. I sometimes find myself crying for NO reason, but I guess is the process that my mind is knowledging that my life won't be the same anymore (positively speaking) so I just suck it up, smile and keep goin w/my date-to-date life changing process! Is a good thing that we can come in here and let it all out, I found this forum very helpful and supporting!

Glad to hear that you are feeling so well! My pain was pretty much gone yesterday, day 5 post op, then I wasn't thinking and sneezed with my mouth closed. OMG, that still smarts. I had quite a bit of nausea too, but when I increased my fluids, that has passed. I am feeling much better today. I actually wanted to eat real food last night!

I feel your pain - did that too (right after I got home from the hospital) and thought I was going to die on the spot. Almost funny now...

A warning about driving too soon. If you have to do an emergency stop you may do damage, secondly you may well invalidate your insurance, i.e. if you hit someone you might not be covered for insurance, which is not worth it. So before you drive its worth checking your insurance docs.

Tor is correct, also, the no drive rule is also because ur body is still healing. No pain doesn't equal all healed. Early driving or doing to much past what they advised could damage, slow, or cause healing issues on the inside, lead to hernias, blockage, etcnw...its for our own good to listen to docs..there is so much our bodies do with every step we take n more.we make, ur body needs its rest to properly heal...please take the time!

Hec one slam on brakes may not hurt right away but could do lotsof damage!

I totally understand with the valid points you all are making about not driving, but being a passenger in a vehicle can have the same effect if the driver slams the brakes? One would think. I asked and the nurse why they said no driving & she said because the narcotic pain meds impair your judgement. She gave No physical reasons at all. If so they would also say no RIDING in vehicles. They would say no exercise and what not also. My surgeon gave me a whole booklet of exercises to be started immediately after surgery. Increased oxygen promotes healing. I guess the no driving thing is truly a judgment call by each individual but I just figured if I was well enough to do resistance exercises with thera-bands surely I could take my daughters to school: ). Just food for thought

Thanks Panda. I checked with my Drs office, they said no driving was while I was using pain meds. I have to drive to pick my kids up from school.

Really happy that the op is over with thanks. Most important is not being hungry, its weird since I can't really remember not being hungry. Even when I have binged and reached capacity, it never took away the mental hunger to eat more.....this has. I still like taste but no longer need food, at least now. This is such a change in my life that I could dance and now just hope that hunger doesn't return or at least not for a long time :-)

I completely understand and can relate to that. Yesterday one of my friends said "it's like you don't even like food anymore!"...and she's right! Its like I finally ended my love affair with food! Truly it is a glorious thing

I agree. Another turn off food is that by the time I have even finished soup, its gone stone cold and cold

Ok Panda, I see your point. I was going on what I've heared from previous doctors add to why not drive cause I'm that person always wants to break rules so I always ask why n what will happen. And my docs actually said no driving and riding in cars unless going to n from doc. That was for previous surgeries, I haven't had Bariatric surgery yet so it could indeed be allowed...
