Hi all! I received my surgery date on Wednesday..YAY!! I'm going in on August 20th! However, now that I have a surgery date, I am really feeling anxious, nervous, and scared. Originally, I made the decision to have the lapband. After ALOT of research, I have decided to go with the sleeve for several reasons. I know that there are risks with the VSG, but I kind of felt like my doctor was trying to talk me out of it. He shared with me that if he had a family member having WLS, he would want them to have the lapband instead. I don't know if I should take that as a hint or what. Does anyone know what the long terms affects are with the VSG? Is it possible to have a leak a year or two later? Thanks in advance yall!

The anxiety is so normal. Not certain on the risk of leak that far out but don't think that is a huge risk. I think every doctor is different. I originally wanted the lap band and me doctor steered me to gastric sleeve. He has actually quit doing the lap band due to complications. I really do think it is just each ones opinion. Again, what you are feeling is so normal. I really liked when my doctor told me that if I was not nervous and anxious he would be worried. Hang in there and good luck with your decision!!

By his comments it sounds like he is not experienced with the sleeve. Most drs are not even doing lap and anymore because of all the problems. You had better research his qualifications and seek advice from another dr.

Thank you both! I have researched my doctor and he has done tons of vsgs, I am however curious why he was promoting the sleeve more.
