Banding in the West

Does anyone know of surgeons (besides Drs. Amson and Rusnak) who are doing bands in BC or Alberta? In private clinics?

Thanks,

Laura

I'm sorry I cannot help you, but hang tight, there will be someone who can. Keep checking in and you'll get some answers. Also, go back to some old threads on the Canadian section here, you might find what your looking for.

I don't think there are any private clinics in AB, but I'm sure there's someone else doing it in BC. Dr. Leung? Isn't that right? I'll let someone else answer that!

Yes none in AB for sure, I've done my homework!

She speaks the truth. There are some Dr.s in BC that people have used here.

Why do you not want to got to Toronto? I am from Calgary, and will have my fills etc done in Calgary. Plan tickets are pretty cheap to Toronto these days.

Andrew

I agree! It's also a good excuse to plan a little trip to TO! Go a little early and do some shopping before your surgery day :)

I can't wait for my trip to TO! I'm soooo excited to go to Square One and shop!

What is this Square One that you speak of. I have to resist the urge to go shopping before my surgery. Yes, I am a man who likes to shop, even more than my wife.

Andrew

I had my surgery done here in the Vancouver area where I live. My surgeon was Dr Leung. If you'd like further information, please just ask and I'd be happy to answer.

Gaffer, Square One is a large shopping mall, i have never been in it so i cannot tell you what it is like, some of the other ladies who know about it will fill you in on it later i am sure. Your wife is lucky to have you, i hate shopping but so does my husband.

Maria :)

Gaffer....ask & yee shall receive!!

Check it out: all the info on Square One at this site:

http://www.shopsquareone.com/01ab_gein.html

It really is a great mall; one of the largest within Toronto.

That is great that you love to shop....there are very few of you around! Thankfully, Mr Yoda LOOOOOOVES to shop & snoop in stores (admittedly, even moreso than I!). His Sister-in-law always says she married the "wrong" brother! LOL.

Have fun...and be sure to check out the mall....! (pssst, there is also a "playdium" across the street from the mall)!

meh... It does not appear that Square One has much that we dont have in Calgary. Besides, I'll shop here where there is no PST.

Andrew

Gaffer,

You're right about that but some of the prices here are much cheaper even without PST. My son's in Calgary and we do some comparitive shopping - he loves to shop like his mom.

It's still worth checking out.

Yes our 6% GST is nice compared to the rest of you Canucks!! My husband loves to shop too! Thats one of the things I love most about him!! So Gaffer and Mr. Yoda are not alone. I think alot of men like to shop but just don't admit it.

There are no private clinics in AB as the AB government is paying for the procedure if you are lucky enough to get to see a surgeon. I have heard the wait is about 2-3 years and the restrictions are different in each area of the province. Canadian law does not allow for private clinics to offer a procedure that is also publicly funded.

There are several of us who did not want to wait or did not qualify who went to clinics in other provinces, ON, or to Mexico or the US. We are now on a journey to see if somehow we can squeeze back into the health care system here.

I don't know much about BC, but I have heard of three locations and also of some of the patients there going to the North West Weight Loss Center in Washington. If you are looking into price, don't forget to figure into the cost the time and money for fills as they are an important part of the process.

If you are near Calgary, I invite you to join our Calgary support group.
