Leaving on Thursday for TJ and just wondering if anyone had any problems using US dollars while there? Not really wanting to deal with money exchange and the required fees if it's not necessary. Thanks in advance.

No problem at all. Just don't offer more than $10 bills. If its something that costs a lot then yes larger bills are ok.

Make sure you do not flaunt your money. They tried charging me way over what I thought was reasonable for souvenirs cause they saw the cash I had in my wallet by accident and then my credit cards didn't work, so they let me have what I wanted for the cash in my wallet.

Also I had 100 stolen in the hospital so hide your funds well or don't take more than $50 with you. I was clueless and didn't hide my funds. It was just in my wallet.

We didn't have any problems with exchange. The clerks at the 7/11 type stores have calculators. As far as money stolen...bummer! We did keep our phones, ipods etc hidden when we went for a walk.
