Hi, I read these threads pretty consistently and I see that everyone has their own experience. This is mine: postop, I seem to be having delayed gastric emptying that's causing me to eat and drink very little. I'm 3 wks postop and still cannot get in my Water requirements nor my Protein needed. I've talked to my surgeon about it, and he sent me to a GI dr. Today, he confirmed delayed emptying and says its probably due to continued swelling following sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. We plan to wait a few weeks to see if the swelling goes down on its own. If it doesn't, they will insert a balloon to open me up a bit. In the meantime, since I'm becoming dehydrated, I may need IV fluids. Very frustrating! Has anyone had issues like this???

Thanks!

I haven't had my surgery yet but I want you to know that I am thinking about you and said a prayer for you. I hope your swelling will go down on its own and you can move on with life. Keep us updated.

I've been having similar issues. I'm almost 2 weeks out, and having a lot of pain and constriction just taking small sips or bites. Definitely not getting much in at all. But then a few days ago I also started having some bile reflux issues (um...yuck.). The doctor thinks it's all due to the same thing as yours, where the stomach is emptying slowly due to swelling and hiatal hernia repair. She's telling me to give it another week, and if it doesn't improve then she'll prescribe me something called Reglan, which I think is supposed to activate the muscle movements more in the stomach/small intestine.

Here's hoping there's an end to this for us both soon!!! This is NOT fun. Hang in there!!

Judy, thank you for your prayers, I can use every one. I'll be praying that your surgery is free from any issues :)

Baby, I've been on Reglan for a few days but so far, nothing. I haven't been the best at taking the med, though, so I'm trying to be more diligent. Thank you both for replying! It's good to know that this isn't too unusual.

Sleevin: I was thinking I was an uncommon case too, so vey glad you posted! I'm awful at taking all my post op pills...I've always avoided taking things, even Advil! Here's hoping things work out for us soon. Right now I'm trying to choke down an ounce of chili. Like woah.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
