Greetings,

I'm hoping I can get some feedback to help guide my decision. So, I am in a conundrum in which I have really, really, really bad & heavy cycles. I get terrible pain to the point where I usually can't leave the house. I am pre-op and got approved and suppose to schedule my surgery tomorrow.

Sooooo, I saw my GYN and she is suggesting I have an ablation before surgery like next week and then week after would be VSG. The question is should I:

A) have the ablation then VSG following week

B) skip ablation have VSG and have ablation some time after surgery

C) have ablation as scheduled and postpone VSG a few weeks

Basically, I guess I'm trying to understand how having hour cycle with VSG is like. Considering the inability to take meds, pain, bleeding and malnutrition trying to decide what I should do????

I am so anxious to get surgery done but worried about overall health. What would you do???

I appreciate any feedback... :)

For what it's worth I did ablation years ago but it wasn't crazy painful. It was more like annoying itchy than major pain after the first night. An itch somewhere u can't scratch. :)

There are also liquid pain meds, etc. and I could take most of my pills within a week or so. My Wellbutrin is tiny and I could take that on about day 3.

But I have another thought. Have you researched the Mirena at all? I was thinking hysterectomy because I was nearly bedridden with my periods, and the pain would wake me up, etc. since I got my Mirena nearly all of that cleared up. I only bleed every few months and barely need a pad for how light it is. My doctor told me about a lot of benefits too. My uterine lining went from 12 mm to 3 as well.

Be sure both doctors know what's going on as well so they can help coordinate your treatment. Also significant weight loss will affect your periods in frequency, heaviness, duration, etc.

For what it's worth, I'm almost 40, no kids and no and for kids, so that made it an easier decision than it might be for many.

I did an ablation before my hysterectomy. I had horrible cramping that night and some the next day, but then I was back to 100%. I would do the ablation. I don't think it would effect your surgery date! You'd possibly be spotting up to a couple of weeks, but plenty of women have posted about having surgery on their period, so it won't be a big deal! My ablation didn't help me very long, I ended up getting the hysterectomy less than a year later, but my Mom's ablation 8 years ago is still a success!!! Better to clear up the bleeding if you can with a simple ablation, then do the VSG. Honestly, the recovery isn't bad at all! :) And hopefully the ablation, combined with the weight loss will be a permanent solution for you!! Good luck!!!

Do the ablation. Best thing I ever did. I had it done a week after having a gallbladder hernia fixed and I really had no discomfort. It will make a world of difference with my periods and minor pain far less then your period.

Yeah, I've been thinking about you since I answered earlier. I really think you should go ahead and do the ablation right away! It will make everything easier and the recovery is quick so you really could have surgery the next week if that's how it worked out. I definitely think you'll be better off getting some relief from the bleeding, before you get sleeved! :)

Some people say there is no pain with the ablation, but in my experience, the first day/night I had really painful cramping and I was very thankful for my pain meds, but after that first night I was fine! I think it will really help you physically and emotionally with the VSG if you get the bleeding controlled first!!

Apricotsmommy, thanks for replying and your feedback. I did have the Mirena and that did not work out for me. I actually had lost weight about 2 yrs ago was maintaining and doing good for a lil over a year I had the Mirena put in and between Dec (put in Mirena) thru August (took out Mirena) I gained about 40pds. I was soooo frustrated. I was spotting a lot pains were better but sex with hubby was uncomfortable. Things just felt weird.... The ablation is my next option before hysterectomy. I think I am going to wait to do ablation. Myron's can only handle one thing at a time and I don't have that much time at work so having to take extra days for ablation is not good. Thanks for sharing though, I find it truly helpful.

Thank you Kristina and Trophy wife, I think you gave convinced me to do the ablation but I think I am going to wait till after VSG. What I'm thinking is to change date to 4/10ish which will be right after my monthly which gives me a good 3 weeks or so of healing from VSG then do the ablation in May. With work I don't have that many days and the timeframe to get both procedures by early April with everything going on at work is just to much for me right now physically and mentally. I was feeling so stressed with this decision but I think pushing back the date of VSG then doing the ablation after I know the worst I'd behind me would make things easier. Thanks again ladies!!!! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
