The gas that is pumped into your stomach during sleeve surgery is Carbon Dioxide. It is not the same type of gas that you would normally get which makes you "fart". The only way to rid your body of Carbon Dioxide gas is it has to be absorbed into your body. Normal gas remedies such as GasX, Mylanta, etc. do not work for this type of gas pain.

If you are getting relief from gas pains using those products, more than likely it is just the normal gas pains you get, not from the Carbon Dioxide that has been pumped into your stomach. That is another reason they want you to start walking as soon as possible, as it aids with the absorption of the CO.
