Is it really just water

Does it matter if you drink plain Water before meals pre-op to get used to it, or is it okay to use sugar-free drink mixes:

Thanks.

My doctor actually recommended using sugar free drinks and tea over water. For some reason after surgery water is a little tougher to get down than the other stuff.

As long as the artificial sweeteners don't disagree with you then it's all good. Personally I have to be careful of aspartame.. too much and I get MONSTER headaches.
