Hi everybody it's my first time on here, as of right now I'm a lil scared. I went to the get an eye exam and started talking to the receptionist and told her I was was getting sleeved on feb 16th. She looks at me kinda weird and told me that her friend had passed away after having gastric sleeve surgery due to a blood clot. Does anyone ever heard this before? Now I'm scared and having second thoughts. :(. Before this I was so excited and ready now I just don't know anymore :(

Blood clots are a complication and it can happen to anyone if your risk outweighs your rewards then it might be worth it. In the end only you can make that decision

Blood clots can happen from any surgery, and sometimes will form from not movie around enough. They are very rare in the overall scheme of things but definitely can happen. Personally after surgery they kept the inflatable boots on me for the two nights I stayed at the hospital while I was sleeping, and gave me injections to help prevent clots. The main thing is to keep yourself moving while healing and it will prevent them from forming. Hope this helps, Good Luck.

Yes, blood clots are a real possibility if you do not follow doctor's orders to be active every two hours while awake after surgery. Also, while you are in the hospital they will probably give you heparin shots in order to try and prevent blood clots.

It's true. many complications can arise from any surgery. Not to scare you, but there are many worse things besides blood clots. Talk to your surgeon about all of the possible risks. Even 'minor' surgery has risks. You just have to decide for yourself if the risk outweights the reward. Good luck whatever you decide!

Thank u all for y'all input!! I have been overweight for such a long time that I am totally ready for whatever comes my way. I know at the end it'll all be worth it. But I guess it's natural to get scared and start thinking about all the risks that come along with surgery plus this is my first surgery EVER!!! I think that's why everything I'm hearing is scaring me.

Trust me, you're not the first or the only one to get last minute jitters ;) I thought between the 3 day clear liquid diet only that I was on and the anxiety I might murder or severely maim someone...but I got through it, and for me, the worst part was actually the last 3 days leading up to the surgery. I thought the surgery was a breeze and far easier to recover from than I thought initially!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
