It's kinda like the upper gi you probably had preop except instead of the 10oz of barium you take a few sips of this clear contrast and they take pics of your esophagus and stomach to make sure everything is moving.

I had so much swelling when mine was done Tuesday morning for (surgery was monday) that the contrast stayed in my esophagus . We waited 30 minutes and did pics again and it was still in my esophagus. So i am had to stay until today. But doing much better and the repeat upper gi went well ;-)

They make you do the test before they will give you anything by mouth to make sure the stomach is properly sealed. They do it once during surgery and again the morning after. It's not hideous.

Ask your surgeon if he/she even does one. Not all surgeons do them after the surgery. My surgeon tests for leaks while you are on the table, under anesthesia, and doesn't make you have one after that.

I had to have one to be cleared to leave the hospital. I guess every surgeon is different. Idk what I had to swallow, but it was the most disgusting thing that I have ever tasted. I hope that you have a better experience.

I've read my surgeon does 3. Once during surgery and 2 postop.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
