I Met w the surgeon i have a small hihatal hernia I knew this already so my plans where to have it repair when I have my sleeve my surgeon is say that he don't want to do the repair at the samething as the sleeve cause of infection control but I'm confuse cause everyone I've talk to on here has had it repaired at the same time I'm thinking about finding a new surgeon but the guy is experience and very sweet but I don't want to have to have a second surgery to repair it it's bad enough I want a TT after all this I just think that's to much surgery on my body I've already had two surgeries on my stomach area plus taking off from work and then another surgery hernia take 6 week before your release back to work for a active job

It is not surprising that a surgeon who does bariatrics would not want to repair an abdominal hernia or an inguinal hernia' date=' that takes a different kind of surgeon and specialty. A hiatal hernia is in your diaphragm where your esophagus passes through and that is what we are all talking about when we say our surgeon fixed a hernia for us. That's inside and you would not be able to see through clothes or skin, so I am guessing you are referring to an abdominal hernia. This type of hernia can require mesh and all kinds of things to fix, and is usually repaired by a general surgeon, not a bariatric surgeon.[/quote']

I did some more research and u might me rt about the abdominal hernia the type I think I have is espigastric hernia but im not sure I'm spelling it rt but why would the doc say hiatal hernia I had an upper GI I guess that's another thing come tomorrow I have to ask the surgeon

He said something about infection control messing w the stomach and all the he don't want the mesh to get infected I don't I guess I've have to rally to him again but the infection part scared me at the time that we talked so I didnt push the issue until my hb was like you can't have to surgeries in such a short time plus taking off for work but that you for the advice I'm taking in every single opinion and using it to my advantage

If you develop a leak from VSG, for example, you can imagine how bad that'd be for a second surgery site with several incisions. Also, the hernia repair heals better after some weight loss, as fat is plugging the hole now and distorts the opening. Again, not hiatal hernia so that matters. It took nine tacks and several internal stitches attached to muscle to close my hernia. It was a small hernia. Finally, I would in no way would i want to be recovering from both surgeries at the same time. OMG! Hernia recovery is 2-4weeks.

The surgeon isn't making more money either. The same procedure codes are billed. The hospital might make more, though do to two preop/postop stays.

Thank you so much for responding your rt I never thought about it like that and a leak could happen to anyone .. And the pain from the after math if having it repair is painful one reason I haven't had it repaired ..I remember w I first had it repaired the pain OMG

It really is enough to be recovering from sleeve and learning to eat! I also would be very concerned about the mesh getting infected. You wanna talk about time off and several painful procedures. No way! I know it's not ideal to have two procedures; it may be safer.

My surgeon is a general surgeon and specialized in bariatrics. He would repair my surgical hernia at the same time as my sleeve, but it is quite large so he would prefer to wait and do it another time so that he can concentrate in just that.
