Hi everyone. I guess you could say that I am feeling very low at the moment. I just feel so isolated due to my weight. It seems like people absolutely hate you if you have a weight problem, and they just want you to disappear. It is like I hve committed the worst possible sin.

It doesn't matter that I am a good, kindhearted person who does a lot to help others, I should be hated because of my weight. I feel this more acutely being a female. That is like a double sin.

I feel very discrimated against by some of my co-workers who I have heard making comments about my weight when they thought I wasn't there.

I don't feel like leaving my home and it is causing me a lot of mental anguish.

I guess if I lose the weight with the banding I will be a worthwhile person to society.

I agree with Jack! If you don't want to walk out in public - then get a treadmill or other workout equipment and do it for YOU. Yes others attitudes usually do stink and people are mean and do say things behind an overweight person's back (I know all about that) but YOU decide whether it will effect you negatively or positively. Mostly - HUGS to you...you need extra hugs right now. Hang in there and fight for yourself!

Try working out at Curves....very non-discriminatory!!

hi susannah i'm sorry you are feeling so down know what you mean and it's worse now with this big push they have on at the minute for healthy eating and no junk food i know it's important for our kid's but it dosen't help people's attitude to us there are some terrible people outand about that have done some awful things and yet we cop it well we have to be strong and say bugger them we can and will lose weight they will still be horrible people, try and stay positive your new life awaits

This world is rotten.... We cant change it ... but we can try to change our selfs to be healthier we all feel this way once in a while. try to keep your head up...

I read your post with tears in my eyes since in June of 2005, I was you!

I felt your pain and I almost ended my life because of it, but I knew enough that I did not want to leave me son with out his mother and my husband with out his wife. I admitted myself to a hospital and got help for my depression . I was there for week and was put on medication. It has not been an easy path since I have an eating disorder of Complusive Oveating to add to my depression. With both my therapist and mental doctor's help along with my primary doctor I decided to have the LapBand surgery.

I had my surgery on June 13, 2006 here in the USA which was a year to the date I admitted myself to the hospital and it was the best thing I did for myself!

I have regained my self-esteem, self-respect, annd above all my life!

I know how you are feeling now I was 290 pounds and was not comfortable in my own skin. I never wanted to go out because that meant I had to have people see how big I had become. I was keeping my very active 3 years old inside with me while I stayed on the couch and watched TV all day and ate-- what kind of example was I showing him?

I also did not go to my youngest cousins wedding because I did not want to have to be squeezed into a uncomforatble corset to wear under my dress for his wedding-- how crazy was that?

I realized that I was missing life because of my weight, I was letting this weight take over my life --I FINALLY SAID NO MORE!

YOU CAN DO THIS!

1. I suggest you go and see a mental health person for your depression.

2. Talk to your primary doctor and start on a special food plan .

3. Look into WLS doctors in your area of Australia.

4. Talk to others on the local Australia LapBand talk.

Susannah: I don't think the world hates fat people as much as we hate ourselves. Some people are ignorant about everything. I think that mostly fat people are easily dismissed, sometimes invisible (which is so ironic since we are big!). I have found as I lose weight that I am more open to the world, because I feel happier. Forget your fellow employees and concentrate on yourself! Good luck!

My struggle is that I am buying in to the TV ads. I should be able to do this myself with better food and more exercise, and that's it. Getting a lap band feels kind of like a failure of will. (But if the pounds come off, I'll get over it!)

After reading a bunch of the posts on this site, though, it sounds like it takes almost as much discipline with the band as without. That's scary. If I'm not good without it, I wonder if I can be good with it.

Betsyjane: It is not a failure to take control of your life! There are a lot of factors that all combine to make a person fat. The band won't cure all of them, but it will give you a chance to lose weight and feel hopeful that you can get all the other things under control as well. It's not a lack of will power because everyday you will still have to decide to make good choices and to exercise, etc. The best thing about the band is that the weight you lose should be permanent. Personally, the band gave me the commitment that I needed to put myself first. Good luck!

Hi Betsyjane.....Yes it does take willpower with the band to lose weight......... but NOWHERE near as much as without one.

Sorry to hear you're feeling blue. We all go through it from time to time, and yes, it is worse for me too every time I hear or read about obesity issues in the press (which lately feels like everytime I pick up the paper, or watch the TV!). Hopefully you will break out of this mood soon, if it goes on for more than a few days, please seek out your GP's help.

You have a great new healthy life awaiting you in the new year, only a little while until you have your banding over the holidays, the rest of this year will fly until then. While at times frustrating, the waiting time is a great chance to be mentally and physically prepared for the surgery and the lifestyle changes it will bring. I encourage you to make the most of it, and also to take time to reflect how smart and clever you are to be taking charge of your life!

I understand how you are feeling. In my case, my last day at work is this Friday so I have been going on all these interviews for positions I know I am qualified for. I am an HR person with (I think...) a outgoing personality and I wonder if my weight/appearance is in the back of their minds. I am not painful to look at but I wonder if hiring managers are prejudiced against us.
