I spent a lot of time gathering all the information, going to doctors and having extra tests done. Eventually my insurance company said no to the RNY. I lost 150 lbs on my own, and have struggled since then. My consult yesterday, the office manager tells me that my insurance required that I join a gym, do a sleep study, see a psychiatrist monthly and a nutritionist...and I said no. I had done all of that before, only to be dissappointed in the end. My husband and I decided prior to the appointment that we would cover the surgery if the insurance was going to be a pain the butt...now I am spinning.

I guess when you want something bad enough you do what you have to do. I am in the same boat. I hate spending $15,000. But money well spent for a healthier new ME!!! Good luck to you. I am scheduled for December 3rd.

Congratulations! I also had a similar experience 8 years ago, and now I got approved right away. It's a change in the attitudes in the medical and insurance communities that this isn't just a "quick fix". For us, it's as necessary to save our lives or stop all of the disease associated with obesity as any other surgery.
