Big Difference In Cost

I have been searching for weeks and trying to decide which doctor to go with for my surgery. It is an overwhelming decision. There seems to be such a wide price range, approx $4500 to $11K. How can there be such a price difference when each offers close to the same service? 1-2 day stay, hotel, transport to and from airport, etc. I know some surgeons are more experienced. Can someone help me out here with some advice. Is paying more really mean getting better quality?

  • Here is my opinion. I believe some of the higher prices are due to different locations (Puerto Villarta and Cancun vs. Tijuana). Some of the hospitals are newer and some of the surgeons have been

  • I think a lot of it has to do with the actual hospital cost. I had a few choices of hospitals, and there was a really fancy one that would have bumped my surgery cost up by about 4k. If you spend some

I also think it has to do with location as well. I chose a Dr. with a '9' rating and I went to Tijuana which and the hospital was clean and the care was outstanding. The hotel was great as well...and the cost was considerably less because of the location. Take your time and do your research and go with what your gut tells you. Good luck.

How do you find these ratings you are talking about? I have also seen people say complication rates. Is there a website that helps with these questions-a partial website?

Good to here! I will be in TJ in march with Dr. Lopez.

What are you getting done by Dr. Lopez, Amanda?

I changed my surgeon and had my VSG done by Dr. Aceves on March 18th in Mexicali.

I should have looked at the dates, sorry chickie! Thanks for responding. xoxo

I chose Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras, MX. He was on the "higher end", and I paid $8700. I chose him because I was unable to find anything negative about him in everything I read. I watched very many of his YouTube videos and I wanted to be in a hospital rather then a recovery house. I was not disappointed. He and his staff were extremely attentive and all my needs were attended to. I'm a Nurse, so I tend to be hypercritical. I would definitely refer him to any friends or family that were considering this procedure.

I used dr Garcia Florence hospital and Marriott through ready 4 change 4700.00 and I paid travel.

Ditto that with Dr. Aceves. Except I brought Nurse Mom! Doesn't get much harder to impress than Nurse Mom. A mom for 33 years and a nurse for 25+ years! She's even recommending Dr. Aceves to inquiring co-workers and family. Mexico WLS was a HOT topic amongst everyone we know.... :-)
