I was wondering when everyone started adding carbs/bread into their diet. I was thinking about trying a sandwich today with only the bottom portion of bread and then only a 1/2 but I'm terrified of ruining something. I've found some great substitutes for Pasta and rice, but sometimes a piece of toast is the only thing I want in the world. Help.

As a rule, I don't eat more than a nibble of anything made of simple carbs (breads, Pasta, rice, potato, etc). In fact, the only time I've had bread, in the 4 months since my surgery, has been on Friday evenings, when we say the blessing over the challah, at our Shabbat dinner....and its literally a nibble.

I recently found (at BJ's....a "warehouse club" like Sam's) some Flaxseed, Oat bran, and whole wheat pitas. They have almost as much Protein (6g) as carbs (8g), and almost as much Fiber (6g) as carbs...and at only 30 calories for half, they make a GREAT substitute for bread (and taste amazingly yummy, with a little fat-free Miracle Whip, some honey mustard, and 2 oz of oven roasted deli turkey stuffed inside!!). If you can find something like that, it'll be a much better choice than bread of any kind.

As for the other starches...I have no interest in eating them. Rice, pastas, and potatoes are a large part of why I ended up needing surgery. They have no place in my post-surgical life. :)

I'm only 4 days post op so i really can't answer this question but I suggest looking at sparkpeople.com and chose the low carb option for their recipes there are a handful of high protein/low carb bread substitute ideas listed. I haven't tried any pre op but plan to when i can.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
