Water Retention

I had my surgery Monday 730 am. I have not stepped on scale until today. I am up about 10 lbs today since my weigh in before surgery. This has to be water weight! All I have is recommended fluid and protein intake. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Many of us have, it is fluid weight from the iv's at the hospital.

Thank you so much for replying. Do you recall when the fluid made its way out and you actually saw the scale move?

It happens to most if not all of us. I think it took about a week for me to get back to "surgical" weight. Just be patient (I know it's hard in the beginning!). Concentrate on getting your fluids in, taking small sip, slowing down and getting in protein (if your doc has you on protein shakes already).

The weight will drop, I promise!

They told me when I left the hospital on 10/24, do NOT weigh yourself for at least a week... Not only was your body filled with iv fluids, but your adominal cavity is pumped full of gas for the surgery. Relax and work on recovery... you WILL lose weight!

Thank you so much ladies! It's like I know the answer but hearing it from others makes it real for me.

I am sip sip sipping and getting my protein in...and this is where my focus should be. Thanks again!
