Heard back yesterday that my employer (I am a public school teacher) does not cover wls of any kind. So I was wondering if anyone else has paid for a second insurance coverage specifically for your surgery. Self pay of course doesn't cover any complications from surgery. What company do you suggest? My hospital is a health first hospital. I am really disappointed ...will be writing a letter to my employer to complain for sure!

You can consider going to Mexico? Surgery is a fraction of the cost in Mexico compared to the US and the quality of care is awesome.

You can also make a loan. My hospital actually offers loans to patients for just this purpose.

I come from a Medical family and I went to Mexico due to my company having WLS exclusions in our insurance policy. I had an amazing experience.... My surgeon is world renowned and has been on Oprah, The Doctors and even voted one of the best Bariatric surgeons by Newsweek Magazine. I can't say enough about him or the care that I received! I am a advocate as this man has changed my life!!! Having this surgery was the BEST decision that I have EVER made!!!

There have been some post here that reported that as a self pay, the surgeon's and the facility will give you an excellent rate. Also, you can follow up with your doctor here as pertaining to the blood work up. Not a problem with most PCP.....
