Couldn't Even Make It 3 Days

Recommended Posts

Day 3 of 3 week pre-op diet and I ate pizza for dinner. I feel physically sick and mentally sick. Why on earth couldn't I make it 3 days?. I have no good excuse (other than hunger). Does this mean I don't have the will power to do this? It shouldn't be this hard when there is such a good goal in sight.

PS. I can't possibly eat oatmeal the next 3 weeks, I was almost gagging today. God give me the power.

I wouldnt stress about it! I am 9 days into mine and the first 2 days I had some cheat foods at dinner. I needed to "transition" into the liquids, and from day 3 to now it has been easy!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You had the pizza. It's done. Pick yourself back up and start over again. I've been there. I know it's hard. But part of the purpose of the preop diet is to prepare you for life after surgery. If you could control your food intake 100% you wouldn't need this surgery, no? I won't say it'll get easier, cuz how is it ever easy to pass up delicious pizza or Pasta or whatever? I will say it is doable and you will make it, even with the mistakes. Keep trying and you will get there. Just like we all did. Good luck! :)

You need to have your head right when you go into this because once its done, its done. There is nothing wrong with waiting until you are committed. Cheating and then beating yourself up for it is part of the cycle that results in negative internal dialogue. Think of it as loving yourself, taking care of yourself, taking responsibility for your health, not as fear or regret for the loss of unhealthy foods.

Now having said that, it does get easier, but there are some really tough days for me, too.

There a little secret..... Almost everybody slips up on their pre-op diet. It is HARD. The trick is to learn & get stronger. Soon you will look at that pizza and wonder why anybody would poison their bodies with that kind of garbage.

Shell - you are so normal! You are letting go of what has been your #1 way of making it through life! We are addicts - and addictions don't die easily. That said - you must start again, and again, and again. The more you lose now - the better for your surgeon and you when you have the surgery. Take that very, very seriously. This is how I got through my three weeks of liguid - I DIDN'T! LOL I didn't do 100% liquid. For two weeks I ate this: Breakfast - big ole Protein shake; lunch - diet yogurt and protein drink; dinner - 1 McDonald's SW grilled chicken salad with ranch OR another big ole protein shake!. Five days before the surgery I went to all liquid and yogurt. I lost 30 pounds. I don't think I could have done it alone! I had friends and family checking on me - lovin on me - helping me get my mind off food. And I prayed a lot. And wrote every single bite I ate (or drank) in a journal. You can do this! Make a plan you can do - and make it workable for you! But - to be honest - it's time to let go of pizza and other really unhealthy stuff. Cry through it if you have to - but it's time. You will probably be able to have it again three or four months after surgery - and you can make it till then. Your addiction is lying to you. You can do this! You are worth it! We are here to help you! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!

Thanks so much everyone. Tomorrow is a new day. I will learn to take it day by day or hour by hour if I have to. Deep sigh, we can do this.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
