Allergies Right Before Surgery!

I am scheduled for surgery this Friday, Sept. 28. Last week my allergies flared up and I developed a post nasal drip which made me cough. Then it went into my chest so I have been hitting the mucinex and the allergy meds. I am STILL coughing but it doesn't hurt, but I sure don't want to have this cough after surgery!! And what will happen to me after I am sleeved and can't swallow my allergy medicine??? I see my surgeon on WEdnesday but I really hope this will not cause me to have to reschedule. Has anyone had this happen??? ANy advice??

Hi. Yes use saline spray. It helps me tremendously and you won't be having to take extra meds. I love it. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you live near a Walmart or not...but, I buy my daughter the generic form of Zyrtec from there and it is a liquid. It has adult dosing info on the bottle, too. I know they also sell the generic form of Claritin in a liquid.

Good luck!!!

Also... I had that happen to me the day before my EGD. I have not been sleeved yet. We are hoping for an October 15th date. Let us know how everything goes... :)

I'm dealing with the same issue right now and I think it may be leading to a sinus infection. I'm scheduled for the sleeve this Thur 9/27 so I'm doing everything I know to ward this off ... Sinus rinse 2x/day, nasonex, Zyrtec. Anyone have any other ideas on what meds can be taken this close to surgery? Is there a chance I will have to reschedule if I end up on antibiotics?
