Self Pay - Hiatus Hernia

Hi,Im self pay going to have surgery in Oct. I emailed my patient coordinator about hiatus hernias cause Ive noticed lots of people have them and the Dr.s are repairing them. She told me if I have one he'll repair it but it'll be a extra $500. Above what Im already paying. My question, has anybody else had to pay that and how are you paying it.

thanks

I am a self pay because my insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery of any kind. A hiatal hernia was found during surgery and fixed, and my insurance was billed for that. Which they paid.

I specifically asked my insurance about the surgery - no coverage. But they said they covered any complications, etc related to surgery (hiatal hernia) which is the reason I found a good surgeon within my network.

Some Dr's do it without the extra charge. I think that its more of the low cost Mexican Dr's that have an extra charge. I notice that you are in the Lopez/Osuna Sleevers social group. I am going to TJ at the end of next week for VSG with Lopez. Email me if you like.

I'm curious about this too, does one not know you have one? Are there symptoms? I just had my yearly girl checkup.. Would he have seen anything . Through all the poking and prodding?

As far as I know I don't have one, but reading some posts some people didn't know till after the surgery. I just want to be prepared, then how do we pay them.

I had a surprise hiatal hernia that had to be repaired during surgery. I was self pay. I was not charged an extra fee for the repair.

My patient coordinator told me it would be $450 extra with Dr. Lopez. I am planning on having the extra funds in my bank account, if needed, and use my debit card. She assures me my card will work across the border due to the fact that their bank is US based. Good luck with your upcoming date! :)
