Heartburn :(

So I have NEVER had a problem with heartburn before my surgery. I finished the heartburn pills my surgeon prescribed me and didn't think I'd need them after they were finished so I haven't gotten a refill yet. Since I've stopped taking them I've been getting heartburn like crazy. Will this ever stop?? :( or do I have to take those pills forever. (which is fine whatever will keep ir away!!)I even get it when I drink Water. I haven't felt normal since getting heartburn. :/ also why does this happen? Heartburn that is. Thanks for any advice or info you give :)
