When is your surgery? Are you scared enough to quit?

My surgery is the 12th. But my smoking test is the 5th!!! Yes I am super scared but it is so hard. I want this surgery more than anything.

Well, the physical addiction to nicotine only lasts about a week. After that it's all mental.

I don't know how long they can detect the effects through the test, but I'm rooting for you.

Not to sound cruel but if you really want this, stop smoking. You can do it and once you're past about a week, it is not longer physical but mental. I say this as someone that smoked for over 20 years. I quit prior to my surgery, cold turkey, because my surgeon refuses to operate on anyone that smokes and yes he tests as well. My only choices were to quit smoking and have surgery or keep smoking and not. It was difficult but I had a decision to make and did it. You can as well.

The idea of smoking anywhere within a few months of surgery would freak me out. I don't smoke anymore, haven't for years, and blood clots were still the number one concern in my mind. That's one of the big reasons I tried to drop weight and work out before surgery.

Smoking makes your platelets stickier. It also inhibits healing. Stop now.

I understand before I even went to my pcp I had to make up my mind if I was gonna quit for life for this! It is a hard decision I understand, smoking to me was almost a best friend...lol...but one I know I have to let go! We have decided for me that chantix with Wellbutrin would be right for me! With the sleeve right after I quit the weight gain associated with quitting would be gone! You can do this! And for life! To have a life free from nicotine and obesity is priceless;)

My surgeon does a blood test right before surgery to see if you've been smoking. I was never a smoker and the last time I tried a cig was way back in 2001, I was about 16yrs old. OP good luck on quitting. The surgeon is looking out for your best interest because it's not safe to operate on a person who smokes. My uncle was a smoker for probably 30+ yrs and he passed away from lung cancer a couple of months ago. They did offer him surgery but unfortunately the cigs had a hold of him and he just couldn't stop, even when he knew that the surgery could possibly save his life. I never realized how addictive cigs could be until then

Wife quit first on chantix then switched to Wellbutrin. Been smoke free for 6 months. Talk your doctor.

i feel your pain. i havent even gotten a surgery date yet but you have to be CIG FREE for at least 3 days for that test to go SOMEWHAT right. my surgeon refuses to operate unless i am cig free a month before surgery. which i will be. they say it takes 3 days for the nictone to leave your system. after that i GUESS its physical but i dont believe that physical crap. its mental. you have to want to stop!!

please please stop now. you are cutting it very close and we wouldnt want anything to happen to you!!!!! good luck i know its hard. im struggling myself but chantix does help fight the cravings.
