Today started out wonderfully. I have been in an annoying stall for weeks and weeks, and I finally saw the numbers on the scale going down! It's nothing major, but I was pretty excited. Then, I took the kids I babysit to a Water park. Bad idea.

My current weight is 328 (down from 383 in 2.5 months), and on the very first slide we went to, a huge sign said that the weight maximum for a single tube was 250, and the max for a double was 400. Single tube was obviously out, so I was forced to take the younger girl that I was with and go with her, and im pretty sure we even went over that 400 limit. I spent the whole time praying that the tube wouldn't pop. That was bad, but not the end of my shame. Then on the next ride, the two girls insisted on going together, so I was like, whatever, Im going on the single tube. No bueno. The sign said that exceeding the weight limit creates dangerous speeds and velocity on the curvy, open slide, and I found that out the hard way. There were LOTS of close calls as far as me falling over the edge of the sharp turns or going too fast around the curves. When I exited the attraction, a manager and lifeguard came over to me and asked if I was okay because at one bend, they saw 80% of my body fly over the edge. If I had fallen out, it would have been a 30 foot drop onto concrete. So I decided not to risk my life anymore. I figured the lazy river would be fine...except I couldnt get onto the tube! You have to stand in waist deep water and "gently hop" onto the tube, but I couldnt lift my massive body weight up out of the water onto the float. It was humiliating. I looked like a fish flopping around on the deck of a boat. After holding up the line for 1.5 minutes (which is a LONG time to hold up a line at an amusement park trying to get onto a raft) I had to ask 2 men to hold the tube steady while I tried to hop on. Embarrassing.

A lot of times during this process, I've felt like I take one step forward, 2 steps back. I finally get my weight dropping a little, then I'm brutally reminded that I am still FAR from my goal and FAR from being a "normal" person. I'm trying to keep positive, but some days is easier than others. Thanks for letting me share/vent!

You, my dear, are a very brave person! But yeah, take the double raft next time ;-) I have never been on a Water park slide and I am really looking forward to doing it someday. I think the most initmidating part are the hundreds of steps you typically have to climb to get to the top !

Elle, I know its frustrating and after surgery, we want to be like "poof" skinny me. Lol But be patient, work that tool! You have made wonderful progress in 2.5 months. I mean wow..really great progress. You'll get there. Heck, by next summer, you may not go on the lazy river cuz you keep fallin thru the hole...grin. Chin up! : )

bless your heart!

i'm sorry you got embarrassed like that. but you know.. it'll be over soon & you'll never have to worry about being too big for anything again. you have already hit the bottom of the barrel & things can only get better from here on out! :)

by next summer you'll be riding the single slide & no one will even remember that, that was you.

i know how embarrassing it is, though.. similar stuff has happened to me, too.. i have one "friend" (i use that term lightly) who constantly likes to tell new people in our group about how i broke a chair at a restaurant at my 27th birthday party... he thinks it's the funniest thing ever & it kills me every time he does that.. i get so embarrassed & my heart just sinks.. at least that won't happen to you, cause no one at that Water park knows you. lol :) and i'm sure a lot of other people on this board have had equally embarrassing (to them) moments.. that's part of what lead every single one of us to this site & to either do the surgery or at least research it.. because we all know that we HAVE to do SOMETHING & we all want to be normal! so... at least you've done something to correct your problem with weight & you're never going to be 300 anything ever again!!! :)

I agree with Spatters3, you are very brave! I gave up on the Water parks years ago because I could not stand the feeling like I was going to have a heart attack just from climbing the stairs, let alone the weight limits! I cannot wait to read your NSV about conquering the water parks next summer! You will get there! You are doing great so far!

I hate these embarrassing Water park moments. I had one years ago at a disney park. i went down one of those slides that does not require a tube. I went down FAST like a luge...when I got to the bottom, the bottom of my bathing suit got sucked in to my bum crack exposing my massive mounds like a thong. The worst of it was my struggle to pull it out before i stood up, but failed because I had to exit the end before the next slider ends up running into me. Smh. It was aweful.

Thanks so much for the support, everyone! I love Water parks but I rarely go, and I only went today because thats what the kids and their parents wanted us to do today...great. NYXA, that horrible of your friend to do that! I've had some close calls with lawn chairs/beach chairs/weak stools, and I'd hate to be reminded of those.

And you're all right, I can't wait to come back in 12 months and tell you about how fun and worry-free the park was!

NDN_RN, i completely get what you're saying! That happened today, too! Except instead of my bathing suit bottoms giving me a slight wedgie, it was the mesh shorts I was wearing. No way was I just going to wear a bathing suit bottom in public!

You aren't the first to have a Water park fail..I had an amusement park fail..stood in line for 30 minutes to ride a ride only to not fit in the seat with my child crying, and having to step out and watch in front of 100 people watching and waiting to get on the ride. This was before I was approved for the procedure. However, my reaction was more of acceptance. That just made me realize that I was doing the right thing for me and my family. I haven't been back to that park.. Probably won't ever go back.. But I now know if I choose to.. I could get on that ride now. But I think you are right not to risk your life again! Beside .. In a year you may feel differently, and prove that you can ride safely!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
