birth control and wls

Hi All,

I love this board!

Here's my question... my GYN just put me on birth control pills (loestrin 24 FE) to help combat a fairly significant ovarian cyst. Will this interfere or slow down my weight loss? I've been doing really well. Since surgery in July, I"ve lost about 18 lbs. and I don't want to suddenly freak out if I stop losing. I'm only on the BC for about three months, so if I run into a slow down, it won't be forever.

Thanks.

My experience has been ... I got my band in March 06. Just started BC last month and I think the hormones made my band tighter. I have lost a pound or less a day since starting my BC.

Just my observation

BC ROCKS!!

When I went on BCP I didn't experience weight gain (it's the only thing I ever put in my mouth that didn't make me gain weight!). The only side effect I noticed was cramping. For the first 3 months I was taking it, I had constant, mild cramps - just like menstrual cramps, only mild enough that I could ignore them.

As I gained weight I had to stop taking the BCP, and all other hormone-based forms of birth control. I'm hoping I can get back on them soon.

Even if you have a slight weight gain, IMO it would be so worth doing what you could to try and treat the cyst externally.

The hormone levels in BC pills are a lot less than were once prescribed. I did 5 straight years of BC pills and did not gain weight on them.

Aside from the time when I wanted to get pregnant, I've been on birth control since 16. I haven't noticed any weight gain. I love having a regular cycle and shorter periods. Yay!!!

Do what you need to do. If you do experience some weight gain, I'm sure it will be minimal.

I actually gained alot of weight when i went off the BCP. I was on it for 2 yrs. It was very upsetting, i want to go back on it but my BP gets too high. =(

I take birth control to help control my PCOS and the cysts I get from them. I have not seen that it has any effect on my weight loss.
