Surgery Next Thursday

Recommended Posts

Hi friends!

My time has finally come! I am having VSG next Thursday! (8/16) I am beyond nervous. I've heard the first 2 days after surgery are the worst! Does anyone care to offer advice or suggestions? I need some words of encouragement and to help me relax!

You know that everyone is different.... Me I have issued with anesthesia but as far as the surgery I did not have any pain in my stomach. But some people have more or less nausea but it is only a couple of days. Just remember to only do liquids till your doc says you can start soft foods. I believe you will do fine if just believe in yourself.

The first day was uncomfortable. No pain from the actual surgery. My pain came from the gas that they put in you to make sure that nothing is leaking. Once I passed that I felt so much better. On the second day, I went home. The only suggestion i can make is try and relax. I have a topic in the pre op section titled 4 people who are scared. It might help. Good luck!

It's not half as bad as you imagine it to be. First day is uncomfortable and feeling drowsy from anesthetic and drugs... Second day I wanted to go home.

Had my op at 8 am, by 1pm I was up walking the corridors of hospital. If you feel up to it get mobile as soon as you and this dramatically reduces risks of dvt, and take lots of sips of Water.

Good luck... I was really nervous going in to hospital, but it was no where near as ad as I thought

Hi friends!

Right after waking, I was in alot of pain. As soon as they gave me pain meds and hooked up the beloved pain pump, I was fine. Even slept on my stomach, that same night. Incisions felt like mild bruises. I haven't heard many people say that the incisions were very painful. I did not have much gas pain, I did alot of walking the halls, though. I had pain when swallowing my tiny sips of Water. I was trying to not take my pain meds too often, that was my mistake. Once I began taking my pain meds EXACTLY as prescribed, I was able to get all my liquids in, virtually pain free! By day 4, I started spacing out the doses, by day 6 or 7, did not need any. So, you see, that the first few days are the worst part of the recovery, but far from the worst you've ever felt. After the initial pain upon waking after surgery, the worst pain was inside, about 5 or 6, BUT...only when I sipped and only for a few seconds AND...only if I didn't take my meds.

You will be fine, good luck! Keep us posted.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
