Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Let's get to know each other before our surgery...I'll go first. :)

My name is Amy (37 years old). I live in central FL with my husband and two kids, 3 yo DS and 4.5 yo DD. I work in IT doing technical writing and operational readiness. I love photography and have a small side business, and when I'm thinner, I really enjoy running and spinning.

I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 198 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional vomit and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked, which caused a slip.

I got a complete unfill in early January. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills. But then my band developed a leak and slipped once again. Since the surgeon I was seeing was less than helpful, I found a new surgeon, Dr. Domkowski, who finally treated me without acting like I was crazy, as my last surgeon did. Based on his recommendations and test results, we decided to do the removal and sleeve in two separate surgeries.

Dr. D removed my band on August 3, 2012. Because of the extent of damage done by the band, including scarring and pulling the fundus through the diaphragm, I am waiting around four months to be sleeved. I'd love to be banded on November 25, which would have been the three year anniversary of my band.

I've gained about 70 lbs since December. Sigh. The good news is my surgeon is not at all concerned about my weight gain. He is 100% convinced that I'll lose it all once I'm sleeved, since I was so successful with the band. I'm a bit of a goody two-shoes, and I followed the rules to a "T", and I intend to do the same with the sleeve.

I hope the next four months fly by!

Good Morning fellow November sleevers! Today I am going to a Halloween party, as a dead bride. The great thing is that I am wearing my real wedding dress from 12 years ago. After I was married I always have wanted to make my dress into a costume, but never got around to it. I realized that it is now or never! Next year my huge wedding dress will NOT FIT!! Whoooohooo!

To all my November sleevers...November is here!!! Finally we made it! I just wanted to wish everyone here a safe and speedy recovery and I pray that all doubt fear and anxiety are replaced with excitement' date=' confidence and pure joy for this your new journey. This is a big deal and I'm excited for all of us who decided to take this step to being a healthier you. I'm 1 week from getting my sleeve...yes I'm nervous, but I'm ready :) You all have been an incredible support group for me in more ways that I can type (lol). I hope that we can continue to support each other through this journey. For those of you on Youtube, I have created a channel to capture my wls journey. You can find me at ChallengeMeVerticaly. I'm still a newbie to youtube so bare with me.

Now lets get ready to rock these sleeves out!!!![/quote']

You have one of the most awesome smiles I have ever seen! Just had to say!

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to see the positive support that is going on here! I will be having my surgery in Mexico on November the 20th and am unbelievably excited. I am a 29 year old teacher from New Orleans, Louisiana and can't wait to begin my new journey. I have struggled with my weight for the past 6 years, gaining close to 100 pounds. I am excellent at losing 40 pounds and gaining 60 back, this is a skill that I no longer want to be an expert at!

I look forward to seeing everyone's progress as we begin this new journey together!

I'm on the 20th as well. Cannot wait!

Hey November sleevers! I have my pre up appointment on Tuesday the 6th and am suppose to had surgery the 14th! We didn't submit to insurance yet- we're doing it when I go on the 6th. I'm so nervous that 1 week won't be enough time for them to approve, but they were optimistic it would be. Let's see, please keep your fingers crossed for me, I'm so scared they won't approve. Ahh I just want want to able to finally focus on pre surgery nerves instead of 'will I be able to have surgery or not?' nerves.
