I just hit 4 weeks out and I've lost about 28 lbs with my 2 week pre-op diet and the surgery combined, but I have been stalled for the last two weeks at the same weight ( basically since I started soft foods). My question is did anyone else have this kind of stall. How did they deal with it and how long did it last?

I have been hitting the target of 800 calories 60g of Protein and a limit of 40 grams of carbs. I exercise every second day ( only light exercise since I'm not cleared to really exercise yet) According to an online calorie calculator a person of my age and size should use 3400 calories per day to sustain their weight and I am no where near that. Anyways, I am rambling at this point but thanks for listening...

Sincerely Frustrated.

Hi.....I am at 3 weeks, 30 pounds lost and have hit the stall too. I guess it is the normal reaction our body has to losing so much weight so quickly. It is called homeostasis. Our bodies think that it has to conserve the fat because it has lost so much so quickly. From what I understand the weight loss will start again.....and it can't be too soon for me because I really don't like eating the foods we have to eat and not being able to eat "normally"....whatever that is anymore.

My stomach still hurts when I eat....like it is too full...even with a few tablespoons......so wish that would stop too!

Are you having that?

When does that go away?

Anyway I am right there with ya.....and anybody who has an idea when things get back to some semblance of normalcy....please chime in!

I'm 4 weeks out and stalled last week at 27lbs since surgery. So I stepped up Cardio I walk about 3 miles at least 5 days out the week. I'm only able to get about 500 calories a day and about 30 grams of Protein and barely any carbs. I weighed in yesterday and I'm now down 33 lbs. I was nervous too when I was stuck at 27lbs, but a lot of ppl said they experience the same around 3rd and 4th week. Keep up your cardio and once the dr releases us to exercise we'll be doing more to drop the lbs. Best wishes!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone. I really appreciate it. I get all wrapped up in my own head and start to think that I went through all that pain and paid all of that money for nothing... That is my inner pouting ;)

Anyways you all made me feel much better now that I know you all hit the wall too and got over it

Thanks again !

I hit a stall at four weeks. It lasted for two weeks, and then creeped a bit, then stalled again. The scale finally moved today after a total of four weeks. I was told (on this forum) to be patient, that weight loss is inevitable if you are sticking with the plan and they were right! I also read that increasing your Water may help.

I had the same inner pouting that you did, for a while, and a few doom and gloom thoughts of "great, I will be the first person this didn't work for!"

Lol... you do have the same thoughts as me...

Thanks for the advice I find Water is the hardest battle for me throughout the day. I will try focusing on that over the next week and see if the scale budges :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
