Day Two Of Pre-Op Diet.

Recommended Posts

Like others have indicated, this journey is defintely not easy especially when it comes to this liquid diet. But it's all good, I've already been taken off 4 pills per day that I had been on for years. I did lose some weight leading up to the diet so I'm sure that helped. We just have to keep focusing on the goal and don't give up, because we are all worth it. One more thing, I never would have thought that sugar free Jello and chicken broth could taste so darn good. :-)

I am on my 9th day of pre-op diet and have found a real appreciation for sf Jello, too! It has been quite a challenge, but I can see the importance of it. Besides the weight loss, shrinking of the liver, and preparing for pst op, I believe it is helping me focus more on seeing my food as fuel rather than entertainment, comfort, celebration, etc... What a journey. Good luck to you on your journey!

Love love positive things like this. Best of luck to you both. Usually day 3 & 4 are the hardest, but both of your attitudes are so wonderful during this stage, that I hope you keep the positivity throughout the journey.

It's definitely worth it.

I'm nearing the end of day two. I'm not going to lie, I have cheated. Today I had three sweet potato fries - at least they were baked. I'm starving. LOL

I weighed myself yesterday morning and this morning and so far, I have lost 3 pounds. I'm sure when I weigh myself tomorrow, the weight loss won't be as drastic.

I'm having my surgery on July 23rd and am getting pretty excited!

Thanks for the well wishes, Mina T!

Hi, LegalLady! My surgery is on the 23rd in Bethesda, Md.. I am excited, too. I have been trying to focus on organizing the house, getting the husband and kids set up to have an easy time while I am at the hospital, and packing the essentials for my surgery. After the long pre op process I have had, this week is making it feel real to me that I am finally getting sleeved. Oh, and btw, I have cheated, too. I had a boiled egg white when I was feeling starved! so, it happens and then you get right back on track. Best wishes to you this week and for your surgery!

Thalia8-

How long has your process been? How long were you required to take part in the fabulous pre op diet? LOL

I have taken your advice and just tried to focus on work and getting the house and family ready for me to somewhat less functional. I will only be in the hospital over night though. How long will you be in?

Yay! Two more days!!

Hi LegalLady-

I got my referral from my primary care doctor on December 24. I went to the Bariatric program seminar January 24 where they gave me all of my requirements and I was off and running through required weight loss, sleep study, psych, and my 2 week lovely pre-op ;-)etc. Since it is a military facility, I am sure my process to longer than many sleevers do.

2 days it is!! Hard to believe. I am looking forward to donating lots of clothes very soon!

Well, today begins week two of my two week liquid diet. Once I got past the initial 2-3 days its almost like being on cruise control. It hasn't gotten any harder or easier really its just moving along. I thought sitting across the table from other people who were eating would be difficult but it really has not been. I just sit and enjoy what ever I'm drinking or eating (popsicles or Jello both sugar free or chicken broth) and enjoy the conversations. Surgery is one week from tomorrow (31st) and can't believe its almost time. I just want to get it done.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
