Hives!

Anyone breakout in hives during the preop diet phase? I'm almost finished my two week diet...surgery is Monday. Woke up with hives everywhere this morning. I'm about to see the doctor but wondering if anyone else had this issue. I'm thinking it's from stress???

Is there anything you are ingesting now that you haven't before? It takes two exposures to something to have an allergic reaction, so if you had something once and then never again until now you may be having an allergic reaction. I have heard of people who get hives from stress, I haven't met one yet. Glad you are seeing your doc too.

I've only had the bariessential shakes, broth and water for the past week an a half. I would think that if i was allergic then the reaction would have started sooner? I was tempted to take Benadryl but want to see what the doc says...

I've had severe hives from stress before. Benadryl took care of them, but, yes, talk to your doctor before you take anything since you're so close to surgery!

I use to get hives when I was highly stressed. Took benadryl too and they went away! But like Lissa says, it's best to check with the surgeon first since surgery in coming up really soon. :)

Thanks guys. Doctor said I was ok to take Benadryl and that I should drink lots of water. It's my nerves getting to me.

Try not to think about the surgery. It will come even if you don't worry about it. Do something fun this weekend and celebrate a new life to come. ;)
