I think I almost had my first pb today.:phanvan I had my second fill yesterday. I was told 24hrs of liquids so I decided to try a a hard boiled egg around 10am since my fill was yesterday morning.:hungry: I ate a couple of bites and felt a kinda scary tight feeling in my throat/chest area...not like I was going to choke and no foaming or anything like that... just tight with some pressure.:rant: It scared me and I started walking around the room thinking oh, no and rubbing my chest but it went away after a minute or so.:cry Is there any warning...is this maybe a warning to stop? I did stop eating and threw out the other half of egg. I was still hungry though and all I had the rest of the day was a slice of mild chedder cheese.:eek: Can you guys tell me in your own words how a PB feels before, during, and after so I know what to expect? Thanks!!

Sounds like you had the start to a PB to me. I sometimes will hick-up before a PB. Sometimes just feel stuck!

That's the start of it, I havent actually gone on to PB either but once or twice its literally felt like my chest was going to explode - you cant even swallow your saliva, and you cant relieve it, its awful. This happens to me when something gets stuck and its bothering me today actually, I cant seem to get anything down comfortably.

But a boiled egg - like bananas and McDonalds, I couldnt have eaten that PRE band without getting that horrible blocked feeling, those foods just never have agreed with me.

Follow your doctors' orders of course, but my surgeon says 3 days of liquids then 3 days of mushies following a fill to give the stomach time to unswell. My fill doctor here in the states say 7 days of liquids following a fill for the same reason. Eggs are a pretty solid form of protein so be careful there - maybe add a tiny bit of Mayo (fat free if you can handle it - blech I'd rather count the extra calories myself LOL) to "lube the tube" as they say!

My only PB felt like a flaming throbbing golfball in my chest being kicked around by a raging elephant! Just a touch of drama there - but only just. It sucked BIG TIME.

I have had the really uncomfortable golfball feeling a couple of times (no PB), then the food would pass through the band (very strange sensation) followed by immediate relief. It's pretty scary though, huh?

Here's to chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing. Then when we're too bored to care about it anymore, a couple of more chews then a swallow! LOL

Yes, I think there was some burning associated with the tight feeling. It is really hard to explain but it scared me! Thanks for the responses, please keep them coming. I really want to have a clear image in my head in case I am out in public...I don't want to suddenly look like the exorcist.

O.k. I hate to sound like a total idiot but what is a "PB"? And what foaming? What foams? why would it foam? why did it never foam before? What other little suprises are waiting for me when I get banded?

I agree with Mary 100%. This happens to me sometimes. Luckily, I've never had a full PB but the symptoms listed above have happened. Actually it's been happening more often lately so I think I need to evaluate my eating habits. I think I'm eating too quickly and not chewing enough sometimes. If I don't change I know I'll be a member of the PB club any day! YIKES!

When it does happen, I don't make myself go on liquids or anything. I usually just try really hard to chew better at my next meal. So far, that's worked fine for me.

It's funny--the hiccups thing REALLY does kick in when this happens too.

If you'd continued to eat the egg, you probably would have experienced a PB for yourself. I think you described it well. A tightness and pressure in your chest, sometimes an ache. It always makes me want to stretch my arms over my head to relieve the ache.

If the food will pass on through the stoma, it does so fairly quickly, I think. But if it's truly going to stay stuck for a couple of minutes, then your body starts producing more mucous to help it on down. This then leads to MORE tightness and pressure, and pain, because more "stuff" is building up in the esophagus. Eventually, it becomes uncomfortable enough that you want it OUT. That's the time to head to the bathroom...

PB, productive burp is not what I experience. If I eat and don't chew thoroughly, the food gets "stuck" and I develop an intense pain in the upper center of my chest. Sometimes, I can relax enough that I can actually feel the food pass through the band out of the stoma and into my stomach... ahhhhhhhh... immediate relief.

However, most times, the pain stays and gets worse. Drinking complicates the problem. I am forced to go to the bathroom and vomit. Because the food has not entered my stomach and is sitting above the band, there is no burning like when you have the flu and vomit. It's more of a reflux of the food that comes up easily.

As for the warning signs... hiccups, instinctively trying to swallow more, nose running, etc.

Pain in the chest, waist, and eventually back. Abdominal spasms that literally take my breath away. Hiccups that will bring tears to my eyes, not from pain, just from the shear force of the hiccups. Tightness in the throat, difficulty swallowing. If the stick lasts long enough I will begin to near a sort of "panic" feeling, even though I'm not panicking at all, and will have to focus on breathing.
