May 19, 201214 yr Good luck, hope you get that letter! Otherwise, consider Mexico for surgery. They have some very experienced drs there, much lower self-pay cost & my personal dr (Dr Kelly) made it a fun vacation too! I didn't need any pre-approval for Dr Kelly either or any letters.
May 19, 201214 yr Medical necessity means you have a condition requiring the surgery, such as morbid obesity, sleep apena, diabeties, etc and sometimes 2 of these items. You PCP should no problem getting you this if your BMI is 35 or above.
May 19, 201214 yr You never know until you try! Go for it girl! If they say NO the appeal. Go and get it. I wanted it so bad I actually did self pay in Mexico - not for everyone but I wanted and wanted it NOW, not in 6 to 12 months. Give it a thought, it's a possiblity.
