5 Days Post Op Terrible Rash

Okay so this may sound disgusting but I am 5 days out and I noticed this very red raised rash around each of my incision sites. Has anyone had these symptoms and if so what did you do?

Did they use surgical glue? I'm 5 days out and I have glue on 5 lap sites and one suture in my drain site. If the rash is around your incision, then it is probably just irritation from the surgical glue, or from tape, or from betadine. If the reddness is actually on the incision it could be something different. I would just keep it clean and dry and watch it over the weekend. Signs of a problem would be fever, increasing redness, increase of swelling at the site, oozing or foul odor. If it doesn't lessen in severity over the weekend, I would call the doc.

Thank you! Yes it s only around where the surgical tape is. No oozing or oder. I will probably call the doctor and see about getting cortisone or something for the itch.

Benadryl will help with any allergic reaction also.

I have a horrible rash that I saw the doctor about today. Mine is concentrated on my chest and not on my incisions, but my doctor said it is a reaction to medication. She recommended benadryl at night, Claritin during the day and said I cold put an anti itch spray on it if I wanted to.

Meli1234 Did you get the name of the medication? I am allergic to toradol a common medication they give you after any surgery. I get a big rash from it. I have had 5 surgeries in 5 years I figured it out after surgery 2 that is was toradol.

My doctor said I had so many medications during and after surgery that it was almost impossible to tell what caused the rash.

I had a rash and itch like crazy after surgery they said it was the pain killers. They gave me a shot of benadryl each nice which was nice helped me to sleep.

did you take the wrappings off of the incisions? i am 4 days out and but my wrappings are still on. I was told not to remove them till the 1 week appointment. Is this common? I want to take them off so bad! my skin is getting irritated from the tape! Of course, I'd probably just freak out at what I see under them! LOL
