Question About Soft Foods

Recommended Posts

Good evening all, it's a cold one here in NY!

The last two days I have started to replace one shake a day with a soft meal. The first night I did it with the meat from two crab legs (couldn't finish it all) and then today with a little chili and some greek yogurt for extra Protein. The scale is showing a gain of one pound. Is it common to maybe gain a pound or two once you start transitioning from non-liquids?

Thanks,

Danielle

Quit watching the scale so closely! Or, at least, quit letting it ruin your day. Yes, it's common to fluctuate from day to day. As we drink more, or eat a little more, it's going to bounce up and down. However, the overall trend WILL be downwards, you can't eat enough NOT to lose weight.

Now, with all that said, I am guilty of looking at the scale every day. I just have to make myself not care when it's bouncing up and down. Look for the NSVs and concentrate on them. It will keep you from making yourself crazy. :)

You're rocking that sleeve!!!

Yes I agree. it is totally normal for it to bounce around from day to day. try to weigh at the same time of day. I also agree not to look at the scale daily. Try the once a week thing, you will be so glad you do!

I think that it's more that you are experiencing the classic three week (give or take some) stall, which happens when you have pretty much used up your stock of glycogen and are transitioning to burning primarily fat. Your body needs to start storing replenishing its glycogen stores, which takes some Water to keep in solution, so you are hanging on to some Water now, too, until you finish changing gears to fat burning mode. Some people will stall for a few days or even weeks at this point, and others will barely pause, so don't worry about that, either, if it happens.

So, relax and enjoy experimenting with new things again.

I need to work on not getting on the scale every day.. Multiple times a day. I feel addicted to it though.. For so long getting on the scale was so traumatic and now it seems more like magic! It is good advice though and I will work on maybe just once a day for now... Baby steps.

Right now I'm enjoying a tablespoon of Wendy's chili with some Fage Greek yogurt mixed in. Yummy! Still mostly on Protein shakes but the taste of real food is enough to satisfy me right now.

Thank you all for your advice.

I jumped on the scale just about every day, but tried to do it at the same time of the morning, no clothes, after going to the bathroom, etc. so I was as close as possible to consistent. It still jumped up and down a bit . . . and RickM is exactly right about the 'stall' and the chemistry behind it.

Hang in there!

I experienced a lot of fluctuations with the scale. Important thing to remember is that, women typically will bounce around a pound here and there. Most professionals will tell you NOT to weigh in daily, but rather weekly or bi weekly. That said, I did weigh in daily during my weight loss mode. I did my best not to get into my head if I were to go up a pound or two or whatever. Keep this in mind, it takes 3,500 calories ABOVE what you have burned in one day to gain a pound of fat. I highly doubt you ate that many calories yesterday. Be fair with yourself! It's just normal Fluid retention. It will pass.

:)

Afternoon all,

I wanted to tag a question to this post instead of starting a new thread with the same topic name. (Hope ya'll dont mind) I'm in the full liquids/soft food phase of my diet and wanted to know if any of you guys are eating noodles? I figured they would be OK in this phase (minus the juice) as they are soft and easy to digest. Also has anyone tried french fries? I'm getting burned out pretty quick on mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes and wondered if anyone baked fries and had those instead of mashed potatoes to get a texture difference on your pallet?

I haven't done any sort of noodle because it is a carb. I've tried REALLY hard to make it so that anything I put in my mouth contains Protein. If you are on soft foods there are several recipes on EggFace's blog under soft foods. I google "Egg face" and her blog comes up. I don't want to post a link because idk how she feels about it. There is a recipe there with ricotta, mozzarella, and eggs I'm going to be making for Christmas. My family is having lasagna and I'll have that and still stay on plan! Also- Wendy's chili is amazing! I can only eat a few baby spoons at a time, but it sure has helped me feel normal again!

I did some noodles early on in some chicken noodle Soup that we made - egg noodles were on my early soft menu along with mashed potatoes, rice and Beans, etc. I haven't used them much since due to their fairly poor nutrition/calorie ratio (though I would do potatoes sometimes for their potassium content.) I got burned out on the Soup pretty quick, too, but just made some more since it's six months on and soup weather.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
