Had an MRI today on my back. Checked no to all the boxes about having any metal in my body, Got home and then realized that my entire stomach was stapled together. Anyone else have an MRI after your sleeve? What happens to those staples??? Hope I haven't screwed myself up. I am nine months out from surgery, but never thought about this until now??

You're FINE. Our staples are titanium and, as you found out today, don't react to the MRI. That was one of my first questions because I have to have fairly regular MRI and CT Scans because of a birth defect in my brain.

I've read that titanium is a naturally occurring metal in our bodies, so it shouldn't react to the MRI.

I had to LOL at an episode of House several years ago. They showed a man (maybe a prison inmate) who had many metal-based tattoos which reacted to the MRI by having the ink start jumping out of his skin. I'm not sure it's THAT dramatic, but it was an interesting story.

Does this effect metal detectors at airports?

Nope....no beeps at the airport either
