Protein Help

I am 9 days post op. I have been on a clear liquid diet since and was told to add Protein shakes back in on day 8. Well, I am really struggling getting them down. Pre op I didn't have any problems with them I would add milk to them and it was fine. Post op the surgeon allows for Water only to be mixed for a total of a 4oz shake since he says it is quicker to get down and protein will lose efficacy if sitting out to long. I do have a variety of different flavors and brands and they all seem to smell and taste bad no matter what flavoring (crystal light, flavored splenda, torani syrup) I add doesn't make it better. I even tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth. I am literally pinching my nose and throwing the shake back in the medicine cup. It takes me about an hour. I broke down today and bought a premade Muscle milk for some protein even though premade shakes are a no on the doctor's list. It says it contains no milk, oddly enough and it's first ingredient is water.

Did any of you have issues with this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Make your own chicken broth. It's better for you, and better/more protein than store bought. Depending on your dr., you could also add flavour with some taco seasoning etc.

I went to Costco early out and bought 3 chickens and roasted them all!! My family ate the chicken, then I made my chicken stock soup and froze ziplocks of single portions. Worked great!!!! Good luck!!

Is there a SAMs or COSTCO in your area? They have 3 types that I use. PREMIER protein shakes are my favorite! There is no bad smell and the chocolate TASTES like chocolate! They also come in vanilla. I think Slimfast is good also. The 3rd protein product they have is a METRX protein shot that is fruit punch flavored and tastes great mixed with crystal light. Slimfast has 20g, Premier has 30g and MetRx has 32g. My dr referred me to Bariatric Advantage and omgosh those shakes we're revolting BUT the snack bars were good. I hope this information helps!

A lot of people have trouble drinking Protein drinks. You are not alone.

There is nothing wrong with muscle milk. I love muscle milk light. Everyone seems to like the Premier from costco. You should be able to start on mushies soon. Cottage cheese has a lot of protein. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe, you can try Pro pudding by Body Tech. I think it's really good and it's 25 grams of protein. They also carry Jay Robb, which comes in individual serving packets.

Thank all of you for the much needed advice. My plan is pretty strict no mushies until week 4! No meat until week 7. I do plan on checking out the Premier shakes tomorrow. I have gotta do something. I go back to work in a week 12hr shifts will definitely need the energy.

Go to the food section of this board and you'll find a thread on where to order samples. You can get chike samples pretty cheap. Also, the Syntrex Nectar products are very popular and have some clear options. Also , the samples for that are pretty cheap!
